Yup. I agree. Even on a clown (especially on a clown!) a frown is undeniably depressing. Nice Senryu and (You guessed it) One that needed one more review for a little bump to Recognized.
You've proven it's not necessary to have a photo or image to present an impactful poem!

You are very busy reviewing some of my older works, and I appreciate that, but I think I have improved a little over time.
Today, I would have included an illustration.
Thanks for the review and all the stars.

It's fun to look back... Maybe a boost or two will show up tomorrow in your PM box?

Hi leather!
You captured these emotions nicely in your Senryu. As previously mentioned to you, a larger font makes an impression to reviewers. Consider adding an illustration to this post - it could be an abstract or even a cartoon to give another nuance to your poem.
BTW ... I read somewhere that it takes more muscles to smile than frown - so exercise daily!

Thank you Mark, again, for your suggestions. I will see what I can do about this. It is from years ago. Perhaps I cannot edit it at this point-not sure. But I can exercise my smile! Thanks again.

This is a great depiction of a multiple of human emotions with excellent transition between each line. The photo is absolutely fantastic!

The photo was indeed a wonderful find and probably brings a lot of smiles on its own. I'm glad my words were able to sort of hold up against that darling baby face. Thank you for the reading, comments, and all the stars.

This photo really adds to the message of this really good senyru. It conveys how our facial expressions are accepted by people, family, friends and even strangers. Sad faces are from troubling times that cannot be avoided. Smiles, grins and laughter is the way to go. I wish you much luck in this contest,,,,,,,,Jim

Thanks so much for your review and comments, Jim. Laughter is a wonderful way to go. Even a smile can brighten a stranger's day and they cost so little to give. Thank you for all the stars and good luck wishes.

This is terrific! Babies have a unique way of eliciting a deluge of emotion with a simple facial expression. You've done a great job of your word choice to convey this fact.

Thank you so much for all your compliments--word choice is a tricky thing, so I'm glad to hear it worked well in this case. The baby picture, though, is so cute it hardly needs words to go with it. Thanks again.

What an adorable picture, that baby is precious. Your words are perfect. the description is right on. Make a great card for a new mom on how to read her child. Good luck with your entry. Terrie

Hi! Terrie. Thanks for your review, compliments, and well-wishes--also for all those stars. That baby has the "darling contest" all locked up. I was so lucky to run across it.
Comment from Glasstruth
Very carefree as the baby in the picture. The poem's full of life, as to when we're happy or not? That's the beauty of life. It's unpredictable. Let whatever may come, come. Wonderfully written. Les

Les, thank you so much for your review and the compliments. I really think the picture wrote the poem more than I did. Yes, it's good to look for the beauty of life. Thanks again.

chuckles are funny
smiles are subtle but pleasing
frowns are downright sad
I love the image of the baby chuckling, a good senryu for the contest. Good luck, Mary

I provide "love-care" for an infant and two young children. They mimic each others faces. Sometimes it is the "pout" that they do best and it has us all laughing. Best wishes with your entry that paints joy!

I bet those little ones give you lots of joy. I wish we had a picture of the two pouters. Thank you for the review and all the stars.
-
The two older ones are teaching the baby. I suspect soon a good photographer will catch a classic.
-
Then please post a picture--I'd love to see it.

your few words allow the reader to see and feel that chuckles make one laugh, smiles are always pleasing to the receiver and how frown can be sad
