Yes indeed.
Another step through history with much to say about today.
Lessons of the past, yet so many slaveries of different kinds in our modern society.
Will it ever change?
Good write,
RG

Thank you RG. Not as long as there is evil in the world along with greed and desire to dominate.

This poem captures very well the results of pent-up emotions, repression and the anger frothing in the hearts of these slaves. Unfortunately, in this case, a bloody massacre of the "blanc" was the only way to rid the island of that evil. Well done, Tom. I would have preferred a more peaceful way but would these slave masters have listened to reason?

Thanks rod, we both know the answer to that question.

What an interesting historical poem so well told in rhyming quatrains.
As an Australian I don't have detailed knowledge of the slaves,
slave trade and slave revolt though I have read books and watched
movies on the subject.
This is like a quick history lesson but including so much knowledge of this time.
It certainly was a violent time in history.

I know some Haitians and Haitian-Americans in South Florida. They are good people.... Kind-hearted and fun. My mother was cared for by some really nice nursing home workers. I never thought about their forefathers.
Informative author notes and poem. Good flow of rhythm and rhymes. Fantastic work.

What a coincidence--one of our cruise stops was Haiti--just a day, but we took a walking tour and got a taste of the history. Thank you for filling in the blanks! I admired your regular, rhythmic quatrains and your adding the heading and picture.

Hi, Treischel,
"A Revolution in Haiti" is an excellent poem and a story that needs to be retold for lessons learned from it certainly not repeated. Bloody revolutions rarely lead to just stable governments; an example of instability which Haiti has proven to be.

Great visual imagery here....
Blood ran down his machete,
Dragged along his broken chain,
Well written and creatively captured in rhyme.

A well written poem, good rhyme, flow and well chosen words. This is not a part of history I know a lot about, although I have looked at the use of slavery at this time, so it was a very interesting read. I like how you draw on this part of history to talk more generally about slavery, too.
