What a marvelous time that will be when they come to fruition. He had such a way of teaching didn't he. He made you look further than what one thought in that moment of creating. Words truly carry impressions and we have to own them.
I enjoyed this.

Teacher's lessons
tucked inside my passion
waiting to explode
Teacher's Lessons is a good choice as a tribute to
Alvin.
He was such a talented man, with a caring heart and
the patience of a saint - a friend who will be sadly missed.

I am overwhelmed by the tribute Sir Ethington's students post in this site. He must be a very good teacher because he had the finest students here. This haiku is one evidence of his goodness and generosity (for teaching and sharing his talent to all of you!)

Lovely - I do wish I could have met this man. Your words remind me of something wanting to burst out in song or dance - something very physical because of the intensity of the teacher's lesson.

Hi DALLAS
So pleased we shared a class with Alvin and both respect his wealth of knowledge and his support and encouragement to release our own passion for these short forms which I love so much.
I have detected his influence on your work for some time now ... I've enjoyed many of your poems and in this one your passion is exploding. So much to ponder and a deep emotional response is drawn, especially when I think of "Teach". Your image selection is stunning. Well done and thanking you for sharing our grief in honouring this great teacher and mentor. Hugs in your loss, shared in the circle of friendship and family - Lovi xoxoxo

And so sorry w will not have the pleasure of sharing another of his wonderful classes. When I took my first class from Alvin I thought I knew about haiku, as I had been writing it for years, little did I know there was so much more. He left us all a treasure trove of inspiration.

Hi DALLAS
I do hope we share a class again ... of course not one of Alvin's .... so much to my disappointment.
I was really a beginner wanting to know more when I took my first class with him. I also wanted to do his haibun class. I took two classes with him simultaneously last year and the haibun class started right after. With so much happening in real life which all took a topple in the same month, I felt I just couldn't do it. Now I never will. They may replace him with another ... it just won't be the same.
I wonder what happens to his site ... will it remain so we can look back on his work??????
Nice to catch up a little ... unfortunately not such nice circumstances. Take care. Keep safe and well. Hugs - Lovi xoxox

You are a master of senryu, Dallas.
This intricate, multi-layered write expresses what I feel about the classes I took with Alvin.
The image I have is of seeds buried in rich soil, waiting for the sunlight of spring to explode into flowering growth.
Beautiful, my dear. Glad I have a six to give you.

Thank you, Julia. That is a beautiful analogy. It I sad to think that we will never share another class with the master.
But he has left us a treasure trove of inspiration; a wonderful legacy. Happy to have shared that experience with you.
