Thank you Bobby Jo, and I respect your opinion. I wrote it mostly to explain the reason why those who write of monsters and mayhem choose to do so, instead of butterflies and cooing babies. We all have our personal preferences, and that's what makes our world such an interesting and rewarding place to live.

I keep asking myself the same question too and I agree with your explanation. I preferred suspense-thriller genre, may be because I like thinking. I like happy endings too - the good wins over evil. Or maybe, my reading is like listening to music - it depends on my mood.

True, bulletski, your reading choices may well depend upon the mood you're in. I like horror because of the adrenaline rush I feel when something horrifies me. Sometimes, I even scare myself. My last post, the one about a reflection in the mirror, I wrote while in an almost trance-like state, the words just seemed to pour from me. Very scary, let me tell you. I like all genres of writing, from historical fiction to true crime. Truman Capote's In Cold Blood is a masterpiece, for example.

Thanks, Vance, and you nailed my point for writing it the way I did exactly. I frequently use this analogy. Please, bear with me...

Can we see those shimmering, twinkling pinpricks of light called stars in a blue, sun-filled sky? No. In order to see those stars, there must be an absolute absence of light. A cloudless, azure blue sky is indeed gorgeous. However, so is an ebony, black, star-filled sky. One cannot exist without the other.

I appreciate the lighter, happier things in life, I really do. I simply choose not to write about them too often.

You "get it", my friend. And I truly appreciate the fact that you do!

Super good, Dean. I know I said I couldn't read because the pictures scared me. Love the line about scary reality. It's true, yet you can kill the bad guys but not the vampires, and revengeful spirits of the underworld. Hence, I love Criminal Minds but find it difficult to watch Movies like Freddy Kruger or Chucky. Great presentation and back and forth argument. Write about butterflies L0L.

Ha, you liked that butterfly line, huh? I had to get that out of my system so I included it in the poem.

I'm like you there, in a way. I loathe flasher flicks like Friday the 13th, but I love Michael Myers of Halloween. I also enjoy the plot twists in movies like the SAW series, but hated HOSTEL. Try a movie called 6 Souls, starring Julienne Moore. That scared the living daylights outta me!

Seriously, you nailed it. You picked up on the dark, underlying humor, and you're one of the few who has. Impressive. You are right, too. From my perspective, I like--even enjoy--creating my own monsters. Those I can control. But, there are real monsters, predatory beasts that prey on children, etc., that scare the hell out of me...the REAL monsters of the world are often left to their own devices...
