This is a good poem and from the start I sensed the end was not to be a happy one for the writer. The constant repetition of phrases about the three of you gave indications of something happening to one of you. In the end you revealed that you were left alone. Nancy and Hank ran off together. I did wonder why it was necessary for them to run off and not still be your friend. But this is a good reflective poem. Regards Dorothy Good Luck in the contest.

Looking back generally serves to engage - or enrage us.
At this age, and hopefully with some level of maturity, we can look back and understand - it wasn't us or something we did that may have caused the separation. Maybe just a touch of our immaturity caused that bit of separation pain.
Artwork is really quote perfect for your offering. Best of luck in the contest. AT=/

Very well told! Indeed, your conclusion is perfect. As we reflect back, we may be able to see what was beyond our minds comprehension at the time. This was a nice story - very entertaining and of a good length. It read smoothly and your rhyming was effective for the assignment you took.

This is a touching revelation. Funny, how when we go back to visit certain spots in our history, we do it with the perception of an adult, which usually changes everything.

Who hasn't been in a similar situation when they were younger? You become good friends with someone of the opposite sex at a very young age, then puberty decides to rear it's vengeful head, changing your feelings and intentions. You begin to develop a crush, without fully realizing or understanding that a girl's brain does not function quite the same a a boys does. She sees you as too much of a brotherly figure, a dear friend, to ever contemplate having an intimate relationship with you. It happens all the time, and it teaches you to grow up rather quickly when it comes.
Great rhythm and flow to this one, gramalot8. A wonderful, albeit melancholy, coming of age tale...

What a good story in a poem and a somewhat surprise ending. I thought someone was going to die vs. them running off together. Good meter and flow. Good luck in the contest.
