almost looks like a smurf to me! Cute Limerick. Good rhyme scheme with home/gnome and face/place. The last line is my favorite "...grimace from a groan."

Perhaps, my imagination is worse than yours as I saw two faces, one to the side, a little one and one to the front a larger face with a large V-shaped mouth. But then when I wrote, "slanted trees" and saw that as two lovers in an embrace with their branches touching it became impossible to think of myself in any serious way.

Hi,Treischel,
"The Gnome" is an excellent limerick. It has excellent rhyme and rhythm and meets the syllable and meter requirements of the form. I think you have had too much of momma's cooking wine if you see a face in that rock formation.

It took me time and little help from you to discern the face, Tom, but you are right, there is one there. I like the idea of your book combining three passions. I had an uncle who was a great collector of rocks, stones and driftwood which all held special meanings and memories. It is easy to imagine whence ancient tales of gnomes and goblins arose. Having in mind the often ribald nature of the limerick I was looking for a face in an unusual place rather than a rock in an unusual place. It seems that might have been a fundamental error on my part.

Having in mind the often ribald nature of the limerick I was looking for a face in an unusual place rather than a rock in an unusual place. It seems that might have been a fundamental error on my part.
