Wow! How impressive it this (referring to the author's notes) What an adorable idea for a song. Too bad you couldn't find a way to post an audio. Did you sing it too?
A Salvation Teddy Bear is pretty special. He's already been loved once.

Shari: sure, I sang it at parties but the two 45 records released were done by female singers. Those were the good old days when my fingers worked as well as my mind. Not so much anymore..Vance

strong rhymes
you narrate this well from the point of view of a child
a powerful reminder that one doesn't have to give a child a $400 game system to bring that child joy - the most modest of gifts chosen with love can mean the most

I was almost singing this as I was reading it. Ha! I see that my instincts were right. I would love to here the music. There is a way to post the music with this but, only a few mysterious people here have figured it out!! Love this. A strong entry with a lot of emotion and pathos. mikey

Thanks Mikey: It was recorded on 45RPM vinyl by some good singers of the day much more talented than I but only sold a few hundred copies in Cincinnati and New Orleans. I loved to perform it at parties and events (really easy to sing and play on guitar) but never got released on the big boards although one is in the can by a star and might pay me some day. Cheers! Little to say, just a sound echoing, a bit of magic, a time living and past, poets write our lives, we see past the dy and into the future, it is our job as scribe to record for those that will come after us, you touched me with this one.. Walt

Hi,His Grayness,
"Salvation Army Teddy Bear"is a wonderful rhythmic free style poetic tribute to a gift that has a lot of meaning for a little homeless girl.Proving once again that it is not the gift that counts... It has good rhyme and flow. A real tear jerker

Thanks Preston, it was a song lyrics I wrote in the late seventies and always one of my favorites as it was produced and released but not much royalties in those days. All the best! Vance

heartfelt touching words dear friend Now I have to wait all winter just to see him And it hurts to know the lonely places that he's been But when he gets home I'll hug him beautifully penned piece vance

Exceptional Fox.....you know when your young...you don't know....that you're..."poor"....people show you that....that you should feel ashamed of yourself and family ....school....television....everything outside the front door. that must be the most painful feeling in the world....to want to give your child part of it....and not be able to...while seeing the need in their eyes. Wonderful write....love you Michael

Thanks so much Michael...I'm really grateful for day way back when I was sitting in the basement with my guitar and looking at a ratty old teddy bear in a cardboard box and thinking...ya know there would actually be some lonely little girl out there that might like this....and so it began...Love you son!! In New Orleans: Sena Fletcher aka: Mary Jane Hooper produced and recorded by Alan Toussaint. He also had me do a male lyric and had Elvis cut it and I'm told it's still in the can in Memphis in his estate. I wonder how rich I MIGHT have been if that got released....oh well...thanks so much Val.....Vance
