Hi Mikey, this poem shows you know Evelyn's spirit to a tee. I loved the use of questions as challenges she's faced through her life. This is an inspirational tribute to a tough but kind person who's been through hell and back, and come out pure of heart on the other side. Beautifully done.

I love your response. A beautiful synopsis of her life as well. I am delighted you liked my piece. I was a bit worried that it might be too edgy. But, she is such a tough lady. Thank you so much, mikey

This is an excellent poem that really had me wondering what the outcome would be.

I read it through (not having read the top of the page) wondering if it was one of those poems that's the will to return pain upon the visitor.

That ending is classic! :)

I was a little nervous writing it to be honest. I was hoping to not be shot before they reached the end!! Glad you liked it. A tough lady. What a cool life. Makes me stop complaining. Well, at least for a little while. ha! mikey

This is a great poem honoring Evelyn for her 87th birthday. I've not read a lot of her poems to know that much about her but it sounds like she endured a lot in her life. Best wishes in the contest.

She is amazing. She has a book on site. An abused woman for twenty-six years. It is already published but, we can check it out for free. Glad you liked this. Thank you, mikey

That's terrific, Mike and I think you caught the right tone and offered a unique angle in response to her book and her life story.

One small change. Your young should be You're young.

Beautiful presentation and I'm sure she'll love it. The last line is her famous sign off--very cool.

I fixed that. Good catch, thank you. I am pleased that you liked the tone. I was afraid of being too edgy. But, she is such a tough gal. Thank you kindly, mikey

I love the tribute. The woman conquered a lot. She became stronger. Education gives us tools. Not just for jobs, but also how we feel about ourselves. Some people are very good at tearing others down. But they get greedy. Take every thing the other has and they will finally bite back. She fought back and won. She lived her life to the fullest, with a simile on her face. Great work.

I am so pleased you liked it. I didn't want to be all flowers and rose petals. Like you say, she has had a rough life and survived and that is what I wanted to say. Thank you so much, mikey

You nailed it, sir. Great free verse and presentation choreagraphy. This is beautiful and tells a great tale of our Lady of the Year. Hope I can live up to her standards some day.

One comment....your young, you're young

I know you hate to review your own work but change this as I think this is a winner and you'll be knocked down for this.

Killer presentation. I'm impressed.

I changed it to yur. I don't know why I find that so hilarious. Perhaps the simplified brain is a factor. I was worried that it might be too edgy. But, she has been through so much. Thank you very much lovely poetry lady. mikey

Many changes have taken place in the last 87 years, as you beautifully described, many for the better and a few, not so. This is such a lovely contest entry for Evelyn's Birthday card. Good luck! xsx Sandra

Mikey, this Evelyn Stewart's 87th Birthday Card entry is edgy and original. It highlights the culture of her day that would bring a lesser woman "down". Well done. All the best on this entry. :0 GracieAnn

So relieved that you enjoyed this. I was afraid of being too edgy with it. But, she went through some harsh things to get where she is. I didn't think that should be overlooked. Glad you liked it. mikey
