This is a very beautiful piece, it had me thinking of old loss. Very emotional and well written. Loss, love and grief. Love this.

This poem is compelling, and strikes a nerve, because it has depth. All of us as human beings will experience loss in some form or another. We have that in common.

I love:
Clarity comes with death
With death we finally find our measuring stick
We finally are forced to put aside
the petty day to day business of living
and realize we are all the same,
just human

Well done poem, Michael.

You have a natural flair for writing poetry, the lilting lines evidently carried forward the message you intended for the readers. I like best the following lines,"We really do love, just because we do, it is real when it sings, it is real when it dances, it is real when it is foolish, it is real when a thousand words can't quite describe it, nor can a thousand more". An excellent write my friend, God bless.

You are too sweet. Just different styles. Emily Dickensen probably thought the same thing reading Shakespeare. There are writers here that I feel the same way about when I read them. I have had the very same ones tell me the same thing. I am so happy that you got something out of my piece. That is very satisfying to me. Thank you so much, mikey

Mikey, this has many layers of emotion and meaning. Yes, how do we measure love, grief and loss? Each are unique as are our fingerprints. Only God knows the full measure of our heart's status. I thought this line was particularly telling, "For there is always something broken when borrowed and then returned in life, coveting demands it". Well penned and a write that bears reading more than once and in more than one season of life. Nice. :0 GracieAnn

I must agree with you about loss, grief and LOve..
It is what it is!
But in death we are released from all the concerns of the mundane

I love the "measuring stick" metaphor!
Nothing like clarity to show Us what's important.

AS I would expect from a genius, such as yourself, the ice cream cone = well, you know, I don't need to make some impecunious remark about the esoteric meaning.

Keep on rockin' in the free world!

Now I have that song in my head and I can't hit the high notes anymore. hahaha!!! Well, I can, but they don't sound very good. Impecunious.... I haven't used that one yet. Good word. Not as good as oubliette, but still very goooooooodddd. mikey

Whoa! SO deep, so powerful. Every line takes two or three reads! I'm moved my man, really moved. Its not often you find that here, oddly enough. Great piece here! Your flow is unique and your choices of words are fantastic. Your voice is immensely strong in this.

Great alliteration here...
what thoughts lie in waiting behind which words

I love your close too. FANTASTIC.

You are so correct. Fortunately we have room to add other loves and things. But, the hurt seems to be in there always. Makes for some good writing though! mikey

You found your groove, Mikey. This looks great! ain't kidding. I like your art because it is different but different is good. You seem ... to have a locker full of words, never running out. I wonder ... how you create all this, tricking words, hewre & there. Also, your clinmbing to the top like a maniac on Thorzene or Halodol. Just funning ... that's my trademarck and probably, be my untimely demise. This is great stuff, I read it slow and careful. There's alot of words I need to research, my vocabulary is limited, cowlicked. Also, I like the way you done your quatrains, offsetting them gives it an unique personality, only Mikey Cahill can do, amazing! Job well done, wackydo

You are too kind. You come up with some damn good stuff yourself sir. I got that poem Shiloh in my head all the time. The first time it goes from the prose into the poem is like "oh yeah, this is something right here!!" Twisters! You got us doing them!! Like a great writer once said, "There can be no demise when one has friends." Thank you for a great review. I think if I drop a few tabs of acid I can ice skate on all these stars.....maybe I don't need the acid.... mikey

'Drop a few tabs of acid & skate on stars,' might make an interesting poem, Mikey. Thanks bigtime for your reply, I always get a laugh ...

This is very insightful Mikey and gives the readers much to ponder. We all endure losses of one kind or another - it is a part of life.
