A very well-written chapter. We are a strange species, we thank God for the good and blessings in our lives, but when things go wrong, we say it is His fault too and we stop worshipping and praise Him. We should praise Him in bad times as much as we do in good times.

I cannot for the life (pardon the pun) of me understand why, when someone dies as a result of a break in; murder or domestic violence of the family kind; everyone says "oh so-and -so was a nice person" etc. Maybe it's their way of making small talk. Because I guess in the case of a break-in whether the victim was a nice person or not would make no difference to the would-be thief. Perhaps it's the media's fault for interviewing all and sundry in the hope of getting a scoop!
OR PERHAPS FOLKS ARE JUST BLAMING GOD (who until this very moment, they never believed in anyway!) You make SUCH a good point here. People seem to blame a Go they claim not to believe in anyway? What is that ll about? I will never understand it/ well done with this work Meia x

Sometimes one reads something which allows tiny pearls of wisdom to reach that part so difficult to reach and suddenly you are awake! This was how I felt after reading your work. It was like having a conversation with a dear friend who had you at the centre of their thought process, very comfortable and easy. You have a wonderful way with words, reminds me of a beautiful bright day, family around the teacher listening with rapt attention to every word, laughter and happiness in great perfusion, no place for the ugliness of life but only beauty and love can be found here. Thank you for sharing, your words have given me the push that I needed to look more closely at where I am, my beliefs and where I feel the love that is given so unconditionally and above all the action needed and the strength that is needed to face the fear which holds me back. Thank you

I saw no errors here and the story shared of your father's death is very similar to mine. My Dad was a Christian but still had confessions he wished to make about prejudice and such, that he wished he hadn't had. He also felt he had been too judgmental and dogmatic about religion. It helped me refine my faith a great deal.

this left me curious about your sister. Is she not religious because of bad experiences?

"up on the 'field'.--- As an American, I didn't understand this phrase and need you to clarify.

Hi friend just going through some recent reviews and saw this old comment from you from way back you said you did not understand about up on the field. I think I was referring to Dad's time on the Opal Fields.

Sankey, this is a refreshing and bold write about the challenges of care giving for our aging parents, the reversal of roles and the memories we carry when they go home to be with the Lord. I appreciate the straight forward testimony in this write about Salvation. I'm glad to read of the things I feel strongly about. Well done with plain spoken English. GracieAnn

Thanks friend. I know some Fs'ers will not appreciate where I am coming from as you have done and I am encouraged greatly by your comments. I was about to go in and tell folks why I had put the chapter up for another review I had just done some changes and additions as my wife and I were talking othyer day and I remembered about waking up at 3am the morning Dad actually passed over intoGlory. Lord Bless and Love in Him.

This is yet another interesting and hard hitting piece of writing from the author in this post. I love the way that you don't pull any punches in this and let us have it all.

Yea! It seems like almost forever since I've read a word of this. Great chapter here. Most of us with any age on us have gone through this. A lot of these questions are quite familiar so I'm sure readers are thinking of their own scenarios as they read along. It never is a pleasant thing at the end I suppose. But, a moment later it all gets better. But, we do worry quite a bit about those last few moments. Great smooth flow here with lots of timely humor to keep us from sinking down too low!! mikey

I was raised in a very Christian family. I know many were not and I was lucky because of it. When one of my son's was born with a heart defect and died during surgery when he was a little less than two months old, I struggled with God. I never quit believing. I didn't understand why He would put this innocent child through so much pain. Bottom line is He didn't. Things happened. He never withdrew from me, and was there when I was ready to make amends.

An interesting ramble through memories of your dad's last days. How comforting to have talked to him about Jesus before he died.
Is the dog in the title a metaphor? I missed any mention of it in the story.
Nice picture. Thanks for sharing,
Anita

This is a very good piece. My mom is 91 and just went into atrial fib with congestive heart failure. It's been real touchy for the past couple of weeks. Good job. God loves you and I do too.
