A fine tribute to Gert Sherwood! The poem sings its message - good rhyming and good rhythm. I totally agree with the message too - gratitude not attitude. You got the message across strong and clear - in a friendly persuasive way that all can appreciate.

Let me answer with a free verse poem I wrote here on Fanstory-- years ago about why I write poetry--
I do not know when I have had
happier times in my soul,
than when I have been sitting at work,
with nothing before me but my mouse
and computer, and hearing
no sound but that of the clicking
keyboard, with God in my soul
and the light of my monitor
in my eyes~~ I am happy doing
what I like best and what I can
as long as God helps me to write.
I do get up and take a rest for a while
to look out the window, and gaze
upon the stars in the skies
I think once more of the grandeur of earth,
then return to my work, aware that I am
surely one of the happiest beings alive.
Being able to view the celestial Heavens

Very esoteric. Something to chew on. Line 14..is it supposed to be "to lay OUT their hearts..." It says "to lay our their hearts. You have such a wonderful grasp of rhyme and rythmn and it dances throughout this writing.

I loved this as a tribute to your friend. I'd look it over again for SPAGS (someone's; the whole second line - though, may be). I'd also look over the last two lines - "comes graciously in -- ". These two lines seem too long to me and don't seem to flow lyrically with the rest of the poem. Overall, though, I love your message, and I would like to think that I do get it. I'm sure so many readers will, as well. As it stands, it's a little difficult to read - I had to go over it three times to really take in the meaning. I think just a couple of quick re-writes can fix this, and you'll have a very powerful message.

love your attitude and your poem. we write because we have something to get out of our system I feel. the stars can shine as bright as they like and are appreciated but it is the love of putting pen to paper that is the thrill. small error in line two you left out 'not be' I think. well done

I loved loved the way you wrote that poem, because you did change something in my life, you are right, you are here for a reason, and we all are here for a reason, is to love protect, and share. Now....to write....what you feel is important....un...or visions seen in dreams of faithless surrender....is the writers prerogative ...in a free society. I am a fan of motivation...and those who inspire it......but in my experience those that inspire best get dressed in honesty. ....my point ....if all you write is inspiration......those who cant find it ....will see you as unreal. Dear Son, Michael: as you know, I consider you an Extraordinarily BRILLIANT AND GIFTED writer with more scope of thought than the average zillion people who ever touch a pen. I find no criticisms in anyone who reaches for a wink, not, a pat upon (any body part)as acknowledgement that have GIVEN something of meaning and value to another. Inspiration Hope, Joy, GRATITUDE are the richest of these gifts. Entertainment is fun and brings joy and it's own form of GRATITUDE which the my REAL Target of my work: the emotions we share are genuine for their intentions are pure and I believe they endorse the lessons that GOD wants us to understand in loving and caring for each other...and THEREIN recognizing the joy and GRATITUDE we experience as we follow HIS guidance!
