Yes, you could say Homer, the poet was a teacher. In the work of art - and poetry is such - a universal truth makes its appearance - and that truth is what teaches. The poet is in a way used to bring this truth about. I prayed your poem and it has power.

A very well written poem. It speaks so much wisdom. I have often wondered about free will as it seems life would be simpler if God hadn't given us so much latitude. However, I think you have given me an answer:
But I know you have a reason for free will
And understand I will make many wrong choices
And perhaps this is your intent for my learning
Yes- I think you have it right!
Well done!

A powerful prayer, Vance. You had me holding my breath and exhaling only at the final Amen.
Beautiful, impactful - and so worshipful.
God be with you this week, my friend - amen. :)
It becomes so much harder to swim(,) chasing tiny waves

So nice to see you posting His Grayness
A beautiful prayer not only teachers can say this prayer I love this--
I know you have a reason for free will
And understand I will make many wrong choices
And perhaps this is your intent for my learning
Yet God, as I age in my deep pool of experiences

Hi Gert: so nice to hear from you and thanks for the kind remarks, so much appreciated. I've been on a roller coaster of life events from business to family health matters with no time for poetry so I'm hopeful life will level out a bit and I can have time for my cherished poetry. Thanks again and blessings to you Vance,

You are so welcome Vance.

What a noble and lovely prayer this is. I am both a teacher and a poet (plus a lot of other things around the edges, just as you say) and this just speaks to me on so many levels. I've lost track of how many times I've found myself floundering in "whys," instead of standing in gratitude or flourishing in productivity. I have to pull myself up short, and it's not the easiest thing to do.
Favorite lines:
It becomes so much harder to swim chasing tiny waves
Of hopes, dreams, wishes, and mostly fears of being able
To keep my life afloat with the energy of purpose left only
With the buoyancy of loving to create and to teach
I have been a teacher for years, but I am taking some time away to write and do other things in this life; it's so short. I felt as though you tapped right in to what I needed to read/hear tonight.
Thanks for this lovely poem. I'm grateful that you shared. Excellent free verse. Loved it.

Thank you so much for this really moving review. You have touched MY heart in knowing these thoughts are shared in a positive way. I did have some reservation about exposing such deep personal thoughts but you have renewed my faith in being willing to do so always. I know that now if there is only ONE person who will benefit, I will continue. Bless you for your most sincere and personal thoughts. Vance

Your poem is very well written and it is easy to see you have put your heart into it. We often as human beings, His greatest creation, falter before Him as we try to pray. I am thankful indeed that He knows our needs, even before we ask. I appreciated your last line...as a poet, a son, father, brother, etc. and finally your servant. Wonderful expression of humility. Nicely done, Carolyn
