Debbie, what a clever cookie. I'm such a fan of Halloween stories and poems.

The flows smoothly, and so enjoyable to read.

Ooooh, not sure I want to stay and visit at this abode.
But I am old and a little tough, well fat too.

This verse is well done, not sure if I have seen many of this style.

Good wishes on the publication!

I don't think anyone else on Fanstory writes these. There used to be one other writer who did a few, but she no longer posts here. Thank you--hope it wasn't too scary~Debbie

Well, we all enjoy a dip in the hot tub, but this tub looks a bit TOO hot for me! LOL! Good use of the form with a holiday theme. Cute, humorous, and not gory (but not too tasty, I hope!)

Glad you enjoyed. The upper class Japanese wrote tanka and those with little education made fun of then with their more humorous kyoka. Thanks so very much~DEbbie

This is a fun poem, Debbie. It's perfect for Halloween. I loved the picture of the witch stirring the pot. That was a perfect touch to go with the poem. Great Job!

I believe this is my introduction to kyoka. Really interesting form. Thanks for the notes on this one.
Onward. I got a real kick out of it. This made me think of childhood Halloweens and the chants of "witches" on that enchanted night. The last line was a nice little morsel in itself--a great surprise.
Congrats on the publication! Wonderful news.

Kyoka is very new to the US. It is hard to even find anything written about it in English. Thank you and glad you enjoyed it~Debbie

Oh, witches, you got me thinking of Macbeth.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake.
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and owlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
