Hi Cindy,

I am not a fan of long poems but this one held my attention from the first line to the last. Your vivid imagination serves you well as a teller of tales. Your rhyming is first rate, the flow like liquid falling and I love the theme. Well done and good luck in the contest....blessings, chey

Outstanding! To render an uplifting repository to the misadventures of an undaunted cowboy--& that too, with such vibrant narrative exuberance--is in itself a Herculean challenge, & you have nailed it down marvelously! The exulting undertone of your poem reminded me greatly of a work by Walter De La Mare--'The Listeners' (whose Romantic fervor, I found, has been reverberated to a degree in your lines of verse):

'"Is there anybody there?" he said.
But no one descended to the Traveler;
No head from the leaf-fringed sill
Leaned over and looked into his grey eyes,
Where he stood perplexed and still.
But only a host of phantom listeners
That dwelt in the lone house then
Stood listening in the quiet of the moonlight
To that voice from the world of men...' -- see, so akin to your fervor!

Now, as regards your extravaganza, yes, I do adore it - the employment of Medievalist imagery (akin to what one finds in the Middle-English Metrical Romances [if you have heard of them]), serves its desired intent well, with sublime dramatic overtones, & emphasis, which in turn add much to the vitality of the piece.
In a word : IMPRESSIVE.....
Accept my wholehearted wishes for the impending contest.

Cindy, this is a very good Halloween poem. Great visuals are painted with your descriptive language. Poem flows well and I like how each stanza has all ending rhymes. Good luck in the contest.

This was excellent, Wendy, a rip-roarin', rousing cowboy ghostly adventure! What a perfectly delightful entry for the Halloween Poetry Contest. It's different than most, too. Not too many equate Halloween with cowboys, rustlers and outlaws, but you did, and I am very glad that you did!

A strong entry, with impeccable rhyming...this one will be hard to beat!

Good luck in the contest. I, too, am entered. My entry is entitled, 'Bones of Robert Payne', if you care to check out your competition, as I did here...

I just checked your entry out. It's going to be a tough one to beat. May the best one win! Good luck! JJJ has had a few adventures, and I was having trouble coming up with a new one for him. When I saw the prompt, I decided to give him a Halloween adventure. It seems to have worked, tho some people thought it was more of a western.

Well, I liked it, it was a great diversion from normal Halloween fare...like mine, LOL.

This is a great story for Halloween. It has that spooky element and it holds the reader hostage just as old Rusty was, only in a good way, to the writer's imagination. It ends in an entertaining way, living another day to fight the fight.

Glad you enjoyed it. JJJ always catches Rusty, but what would he do in the future if he managed to hang onto him? Jerry Jing-Jang wants to ride for a while yet! Thanks for stars and the wonderful review.

What an imagination you have displayed through your grouping of such a creative write. Your words are descriptive and have displayed vivid imagery. Your rhyming scheme is right on in giving character to your words. I fell like you have nailed the prompt well. Enjoyable read , I have no suggestions or corrections:)

I enjoyed your Western style Halloween with nice Old West feel and rhythm. I liked the frequent use of internal rhyme "ever...clever" and the nice story flow. Great job--Ted

This was wonderful! A great story rolled into a poem. The details were great, I could see the whole thing. The rhythm was even, the flow smooth. You did a great job.
"Ain't hear'd of no ghost what could rustle cattle"- loved this line :-)

Good solid end rhyming. Good perfect rhyming as well as sight rhyming. Good alliteration with Jerry/jing/jang...hanged/hill. Good, clear message that holds the readers attention from start to finish. Best of luck in the contest.
