I do find this poem very meaningful in its story.
The day after retirement - a whole new world, no work and all play the whole day. Great!
Maybe not so great as time does drag its feet at times like this. have to plan a routine or a schedule to while away the great time.
And we ended up more busy than before retirement - that's the irony. Either stay at home or go out and so many choices.
Time we have a lot now but what's next, smiles.
Excellent write and well penend.
The mood of retirement is definitely a good feeling - less stress and worries from work.

The sense of wanting to escape from the reality of the moment is strong here. On the other hand bringing nature into the poem also gives a strong sense of peace and predictability even when your day seemed to hold few expectations.
Although I liked this poem a lot I felt that the last verse was weak. :"I'll sit and sip my cup" was not particularly poetic or vivid.

There are many things that are special about this poem. You captured the moment of starting anew. You communicate well the mixed emotions of what to do next. You desire to stay in bed and avoid the moment. Yet life calls to you that there are still things to do even if they are different from what you did before. Now you have to discover what they are.

The poem in its entirety captures a life changing event and you presented the sentiments well. It is a rather poignant piece which speaks for many others who were similarly unfortunate during the economic demise but it also speaks for those who were fortunate to have some option (retirement.
