I like your interpretation of your lovely 5-7-5. It is such a great metaphor of so many moments in life. The artwork you chose fits so perfectly to your message and is quite visually beautiful. Even without it, I would be able to visualize myself there just from your words.

Your verse is a perfectly formed haiku which meets the criteria for the syllable count:
Stone-still on the pier
yet I know not how to steer--
how did I get here?
Stimulating the reader to think...

Well done; you succeeded! It is a thought-provoking 5-7-5. I'm mystified when I hear someone say they had no choice. That presupposes we're at the mercy of external forces. There's ALWAYS a choice though. As to what guides it is another matter. Is it driven by a psychological imprint, or by something much deeper? And to quote James Hillman, father of archetypal psychology, a "what" question is 'from the soul of the questioner that quests for the soul of the happening.' Answers are inside, not out there.
BTW, like you, I have a fascination with words (a passion that's almost my lifeblood!)

This verse reminds me of my favorite quote: "Success is a journey, not a destination." I believe in the journey and its mini successes.

First, let me comment on your author's notes if I may - I think what you set out to accomplish with this very beautiful and very strong little 5-7-5 was achieved beautifully. The interpretation I had for it before reading your notes was pretty much exactly as you had intended. My only question (which I might have answered, had I taken a little more time before I read the notes) was why it was entitled "The Boat".

Just a fabulous 5-7-5, and beautifully presented as well - very striking artwork. I enjoyed the end rhyme too!

Nice work, Gabriel. You achieved what you set out to do ... you "provoked" my thoughts!

We've all been there, or will be, at some point or other in our lives. Good author notes.

Nicely done!

You achieved what you set out to do. This is a very thought- provoking, deeply philosophical poem. Who has never stopped and asked "what was I thinking??"

This is a thought-provoking piece of philosophical poetry that says a lot in a few words. I like the poignant question you used to end it. kudos

The poem does exactly what you said it did. But I am glad you explained it, because you had me wondering about how you came up with the title for a moment. Now that I understand and see it - it makes perfect sense. Good Job!
