I'm a gun owner but I only target shoot. I don't know how we can reduce gun violence or war. We can teach our kids right from wrong and that everyone is equal and no one is better than us just because of their skin color, gender, occupation or whatever. We deserve the same respect and love as the person next to us.

LOL - finally found you! I forgot who asked me and then had to search my damn comments - my short term memory is worse than short.

Ok so I laughed through this post. Cause I know how crazy they are. It isn't going to go away and they will always make a mess. Did you look up some of the poems from that multi author - truly you should it will make you laugh and buy a shot gun.

They got into my attic and cost me thousands in repairs - the buggers just don't quit. And I resorted to attack and defence and I am sure they only laughed at me.

This is great work and at the cottage there is one great thing. NO BLOODY SQUIRRELS!!

Hugs
Maureen

Yeah, I tried the same thing when I had a cottage. I posted snake alerts all around the cottage but both the predators and the bait flipped me the finger

LMAO - the squirrels did the same thing to me.:)

Bravo! Ingrid, I am so glad to hear someone finally speak up. (the silent majority, I guess.)

"It's gone past mumbling, shouting obscenities or trying to ignore their existence. Their arrogant nature has somehow given them the idea that even my own property is worthy of a war zone. They continue to violate my personal space, throwing their bombs at my house and destroying my peace of mind."

You said it. Good job, Ingrid. Bob

You know Bob, after I finished writing this, I wasn't sure where my commentary about the state of our the world began or ended, but I think you knew that. The squirrels are very real.

Words are indeed more powerful than words, but I think people result to physical attacks because of a lack of "mental ammunition." Haha! I enjoyed this, and I agree with what your views and attitude. :)

Ah shucks, I've yet to find somebody willing to debate or go into battle with me on this essay, but if they did, I might load my sing shot with squirrels.

Hi Ingrid,
I love how you diversified your write. You start with violence go to conflict, then to resolution, just to go into diversity of culture... Followed by demographics, then back to tolerance... Just to hit out at the poor little ol' squirrel... Maybe you should do a deal with them? It's alright we've got the humble possum that eats all my avocado's and bush rats that decide to have a party in the ceiling... Me, I can't even hurt a cockroach these days, for some strange reason life's become precious to me... Funny for someone that used to go shooting... Fighting and maiming. I love your writes you have you own style with a real tongue and cheek sense of dryness... Yeah, I'm a fan!
All the best wishes for the contest.
Kindest thoughts,
James xx

Tthis was so cleverly presented. All the way through I was wondering who or what group would be on the other end. Was quite surprised. How many do you have? I have one who continually gets into my plastic container that houses my bird seed. At first I thought it was a raccoon. So I went out and bought the little bugger his own food and now I never see him. Food just disappears over a two day period. To date he has no friends.

Alice, literally there dozens of the buggers....maybe even a gross. they flaunt their right to life issues and treat me like a land poacher. The f-ing shells from the nuts they are pealing off the trees are all over my deck and hot tub.

I think one of them stuck their tongue out at me on the weekend.
reply by DALLAS01 on 08-Aug-2013
Is this something new or have they always been a problem?

Your take on race is interesting to me. American's are a very divided country for being made on the backs of all races. I live in Southern California and have always grown up in a multi racial place - and yet it still lurks here. My children, however, truly do not see race - so maybe there is hope with the next generation. They speak fragments of more than three languages and in my city whites only make up 23% - clearly not a majority any more.

Yes, I do think that perhaps the fight for equality in race, gender and sexuality may be fought by one generation and embraced by the next when bias is not tolerated and not 'socially correct.'

'What we resist, persists..' Your very clever diatribe against the squirrel nation was alternately funny and disturbing. I like squirrels, generally, but I don't have to deal with their destructive tendecies since I don't do the gardening at my house. But my husband, would stand up and applaud your rant. Very well written, SO. Good luck in the contest.

You are having a bad day.
I hope your rant has salved your psyche.
If it were not for my children and grandchildren, I'd have joined you up north long ago.
there are times I wish my draft number had not been 347 so I'd had a reason to flee this lobbyist manipulated bipolar society.
the only thing I might change is 'wax on eloquently about our multi-cultural society, and they would be accurate. (verb tense changes here)

I looked at it again and find it hard to change this. While the essay is in past tense, the politicians do continue--it's not a done deal.

Lots of Americans came to Canada during the Nam years and many of them stayed, even after given the freedom to return home without repercussions.

The toughest past in being an American is being one of 330 million. Everybody disagrees with something and voices get diluted in the crowd.

Compromise has become equated with weakness rather than strength.

And you know there are people who will fight to the death for the privilege of being right without evaluating the debate to understand if the declared enemy has a point.

That was quite a rant. I hate when I hear of random bombings and such too. I hope you don't have to take it out though on the trees. LOL. I would like to ask a totally different question, since you are a writer living in Canada. When I see freelance requests for may articles etc to be written, if it is from Canada, it usually says Canadians only apply. Why is that? Just curious. I live in NYS.

Depending on the sponsor, it could just be an effort to promote local talent. It could also me limiting the number of entries that need to be read. The US has 330M people while Canada has only 33M. It's possible that they fear getting thousands of entries and are set up only to read a given amount in the judging.

There are also some sites that are government sponsored and I'd say supporting their own citizens is big on their agenda.

I do see sites that say US or UK residents only though, so its not just in Canada
