So sad, too much of this going on and it seems to get worse. We live in a dark world where man is very lost and very angry it see. Porn is also assoc. with abuse, objectifying women, dehumanizing them. What a plague. Well done and so sorry for the loss of your friend. So very sad. rox

Yes, I guess many of us have been broken glasses once, we have been through the rough and tumble of things, the horrible pit the author effectively described in this poem, the loss, distress, and darkness, that we all share. Well done, God bless.

Coming from someone who watches a lot (too much in fact) Investigation Discovery (ID) channel, I know from so many horrid true stories documented on this very issue. Sometimes I get very sad and depressed while not knowing why, then I realize I need to watch less ID. This is a very well-written poem on a very dark yet important issue that plagues our society and I just don't understand why. And from your notes it's personal to you and with some sort of connection. Your poem speaks for the silent voice of the victim whose shame keeps them quiet I think. Help is offered to them, but they remain where they are. Wonderfully composed Belinda, and my heart goes out to those involved.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful words toward those involved. Yes it is very personal for me. As a survivor I have worked with victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. Sadly, I have known others who lost their gamble that the perpetrator would never kill them. I think this one bothered me so much because the victim was male. Many tried to help and encourage him to seek shelter with his children. He didn't think it was quite time yet. He lost that gamble also this week. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and creating a rapport where I felt safe to share this with you. I do appreciate the excellent rating.

You are most welcome. And bless your heart for being a survivor and then having the strength to move forward by helping victims AND perpetrators. I highly commend you for that. It's people like you who make positive differences in this world. I'm a survivor of several types of abuse, but I came out of it smiling because I have a lot to be smiling about. Most (not all) of my poetry and stories are on the dark side because they speak to the human condition, which is one of my interests. And the human condition is not always flowery and pretty.
I'm delighted to get to know you Belinda, and thank you for sharing more of your story with me:)

That's awesome that you are smiling! I like to laugh! Laughter is the best medicine and my favorite coping skill. I would never have gone out to help perpetrators if God had not equipped me AND nudged me in that direction. I have had many blessings because I followed His direction. Most of my writing is not dark but I am also interested in the human condition and as you said a lot of that is dark. I have started writing my story and have the first two chapters written. Some of it will definitely be dark. Lol. It's really good to know you too Becky.

That's wonderful:) Are your chapters here on FB? I'll start reading them if they are and your other works as well. Looking forward to it:) God is a huge part of my life as well. I love writing about my faith in poetry and stories. And yes, laughter is the best medicine. Looks like we have a lot in common:) Happy Friday and have a great weekend. Stay in good touch my friend:)

The images revealed in this poem just saddens. "For you would not choose to flee" is so very true in a lot of these cases. I suppose when one is in this position there is always a small sliver of hope that things will get better...but most of the time they don't. I love that it rhymes since that makes it so smooth and easy to read yet it portrays a very emotional and powerful message. Very well written. I enjoyed it.
