I can honestly say that I think this is the best spiritual poem that I've ever read in truth; "Led Him battered, bleeding, to Calvary To fulfill His Father's destiny." Most excellent in theme and emotional tone of the Crucifixion paralleled with a good analogy of our position as sinners: "Mankind's sins into which were all born,..'Adorning His head- a crown of thorns." I just noticed now what's even most laudatory about this poem is the fact that you've rhymed each and every line in the four line stanzas.

This poem sent chills down my spine. I know the story of Christ's Passion and with the presentation of your words and the sound effects you employed, this contest entry is a masterpiece, deserving nothing less than a six star rating. Best of luck in the contest with your otherworldly entry.

This one gave me goose bumps. How lovely the words, how lovely the music and how wonderful for you the words from Pastor Richie Pride. Your words, mostly, really reached out to me. They are the best spiritual words I have read on here. Good luck in the contest, you have won my vote easily. xsx Sandra

I just read this magnificent poem and my eyes pooled with tears. I don't know quite what to say. You have said all the words and rhymed them so well. The talent here is amazing. Your pastor was right. God bless you! Teresa.

Thank you very much, Teresa. Tears should surely be shed for the torture, humiliation and sacrifice Christ made for each & every one of us. It's the greatest, most selfless act that man kind will ever know.

Thanks, again for your wonderful review, Teresa~

Dean, I don't usually read spiritual poetry because the theme is usually the same. But you have told the story of Christ's crucifixion very well. You have humanized him and your use of dialog really characterizes his slayers for what they were. Your message is clear without being trite or pedantic. Nicely done. RodG

Thank you very much, Rod, that's precisely what I attempted to do. Simply tell the story of Christ's crucifixion, without being overtly preachy. I'll leave the preaching up to the multitudes of television evangelists out there who beg for our money, LOL...

Hah, thank you very much, michaelchill, I certainly appreciate that...

Use the advanced editor rather than the basic one, it's better for accepting pictures, different colors, etc. You will find the option at the bottom of the box in which you paste your text.

Dean, that was excellent. Wonderfully powerful and graceful all at once. 'It's your choice as to what to do, there for the asking - it's up to you". Excellent rhyming throughout. Beautifully written and the footnote from you pastor.... like icing on a cake. Well done. Sheryn :-)

Thank you very much, Sheryn, I appreciate that. My pastor did love the poem, he even cried, which made me cry, and in turn, got my wife to cryin'...It was one huge cry-fest! The man does mean a great deal to me, and it got to me that it touched him, a pastor for over thirty years, so deeply. I think he was just relieved that there weren't any swear words or blood & guts in it. Well, with the exception of Christ's crucifixion, of course...

You're funny, I just finished reading your reply I was just so anxious to explain the reasons I'd chosen that piece. What does your pastor think of some of the gruesome ones? I guess coz he knows you he sees it's all in good fun (except the graphics) lol. Good luck lovie, you deserve to win. Sheryn :-)
reply by the author on 18-Aug-2013
He tries to skip the rather graphic ones, as I give him an update every Sunday at church which to avoid. Of course, Sickery Dickery Thunk will be tops on the list this week (LOL). I half think he sneaks and reads them anyway, He knows too much about my latest posts not to...

Thanks for the well wishes on the win. I don't have much luck when it comes to poetry contests. I do much better with prose.

I disagree, I think your poetry is excellent. Ps your pastor sounds terrific. My aunt and uncle's one used to come to their house regularly and have a glass or two of red. He was great. Lol. Fingers crossed.
