Excellent. You've expressed my views, exactly. Like fire, technology can be helpful or disastrous. Sometimes during a thunderstorm, we lose our electricity for a while. When that happens, my 21 year-old son wanders aimlessly about the house, completely lost without his computer, I-phone, and all that other stuff. It's very sad.

Thanks Samuel. I appreciate your reply and share your sadness. There is very questionable (if any) spiritual nutrition in these devices...more the opposite ... creating a void of human touch and emotion. So sad in many ways! Blessings and thanks, Vance

So-o-o true!

I worry about my undergrad. daughters who sit side by side on the couch every evening with one hand on the cell phone and the other on the laptop ... while listening to the Ipod and ... studying!

The art of communication via facial expression, body language ... phone calls is gone. We're creating a generation of robots.

As for letters ... love letters ... just forget it! Be happy if you get a romantic e-card.

Desecration of life as it was meant to be lived ..

Oh I do sound a prophet of doom - but you did hit the nail on the head. I couldn't have put these thoughts into words better, if I tried! :)

Hi Vance. Good to see you posting! I enjoyed this poem very much. It is a very true commentary on today's technology, with some brilliant lines and great rhyme. I loved the photoshop erasing tears comment - I thought that was very clever. Hope you are well.

Kindest of regards,

Julie :0)

Thanks Julie! It is always great to hear from you and I hope all is going well with you. I've been a bit detached from poetry for awhile with some large life changes but I'm carrying around so many half-written, quarter-written, scraps that I'm ashamed of my lethargy. Hope I can get some more finished soon and again so glad to hear from you dear friend. Vance

I like the dry humor at the end, it bites but it is the truth, after everything's done, the bottom line really is the pay. It is nice that the poet, first presented the images of the good old days, the friends, the gray haired teachers, the students, and the mighty internet, lording over the lives of most people Ipods, Iphones, Inets, what the heck, where everything may be deleted even emotions, even tears. I got the creepy feeling that eventually we will stop being humans and end up just a number, pert of statistics in the Networld. But no matter what, the paycheck comes first before worries. Well, that is how your poem comes at me, you may not have explicitly worded it but it challenges the readers to think that way. Well done poet.

I don't think I actually agree we are losing love to technology however, I can see why it's possible. We think we fall for people that we never meet instead of toughing it out with the actual people we know and are committed too. This is a well thought out piece that will hit the mark for many. Nice work G. xoxo Kiwi
