Nice poem. Good, thought-provoking idea. I was worried it was going to evolve into a too-sweet ending; it didn't, and I thank you.
I'm on my soapbox with this next comment: I think poets need not put so many detailed comments at the end. Let us struggle with unfamiliar words or, get this, use our own dictionaries. Those of us (like me), if we don't know a word, we look it up. Others, if they don't know a word and don't have the initiative to look it up, that's their loss.
I'm off my soapbox now.

Soapboxes are fine dear - I rarely include author notes AT ALL, by the way, but we have some poets on site who are interested in complex rhythms and occasionally someone who'll split hair over such a word as 'whorling' (as it's usually used as a noun) - easier to cut 'em off at the pass sometimes! :))Sharyn

I like it! It works for me! (Joe DeMaggio)I still linger my gaze at the stars. At age 82, I pride myself at my ability to go all the way down to the tickly grass and do it often. I don't care where grass comes from as long as it tickles. I can get up too. This poem matches my life. Thanks for sharing.

Life was a lot simpler before we grew up and had so many questions. Great use of circular images: merry-go-round and clock. gyred and whorling, helixes, vortexes, one giant wheel. The last line sums it up beautifully. A great contest entry.
