    Good morning deb,

    You are right.
Everything the poet lived for was in that one sentence of this tiny poem.
As someone much wiser than I once shared with me, god must have needed him more than I did.
He died less than a month after I wrote this poem in the spring of 2009.

I wrote about him in a very happy poem called "rapscallions gifts".
I offer it, not for potential reviews but for your enjoyment.
    It is a celebration poem.

Peace, hugs and lots of smiles,

This poem is filled with nice sentiment. It reminds all of us just how precious life is. It must be excruciating to love someone you cannot get to. Anyway, this is so well done that it really moves the heart. Thanks for sharing it photomultiplier.

Lovely, uptownchef, dear!

A lover or wife waiting for the loved one to return from war.

You set the scene so well with simple clipped lines.

Really enjoyed it. :) Hugs xxx

Many wait at home and pray for the safety of their loved ones. Nothing much to do but wait. The moments can be lonely and frightening at times. The price of wars and unrest is blood and lives. There is no bargain somehow.
Good write and well expressed.

Cheerio, Ritchie.

Hey! I want my mug back! I'm tired of drinking from this Styrofoam cup. Just read your notes. This must have meant a lot to the troops. Keep the homefires burning.

    Good morning Ed,

Syrofoam cups are bad for morale and our planet.
Treat yourself to a brand new ceramic mug.
You might like it so much, with that awesome, vanilla-drizzled, cinnamon-spiked nutmeg aroma drifting into your half-asleep brain ( only on early mornings of course ) , that you might even consider a two-for-one sale.
The check out line at Marshall's usually has some yummy choices though you often have to wait long enough,to save a dollar, that you could easily stack up up on a dozen!

I tried my best to keep the home fires burning.
His death was less than a month after I penned this poem in the early spring of 2009.
I still have his rooster mug and always will along with a treasure trove of very very happy memories.

I'm sorry,I did not realize that it was written about your husband. Thought maybe it was sent to all the troops as a morale booster. I don't use Styrofoam cups, was just trying to be clever which this time - just one of many- turned out to be pretty stupid.

    Hi Ed,

    We were not yet married
I did offer ithis poem as a gift after his death.
It made sense to me then.
Not exactly a path from grief but perhaps a way to offer light and hope to someone else waiting for another homecoming..

You are still clever in my book.

    Good morning Ed,

    Heaping tablespoons of coffee
    Fresh grated nutmeg and cinnamon
Cocoa powder ( just a pinch will do on top )

    While coffee is brewing,
fill mug with about one third half and half ( fat free is fine )
Add brown sugar and drizzle with a fine vanilla

    Microwave for 35 seconds.
    Add coffee

    Bon appetit!

The beginning may be a bit tricky until you get your eyeball measurements the way that you like them. If you are going to use the coffee for later as a frappucino style, do everything and chill. If you wait to sweeten and "dress" your coffee when it is already cooled, it will not be nearly as good

    p.s.
It seems like this was never sent.
I found it just this morning in my outbox.
I hope that you enjoy this fun change to your morning joe

A nice love poem. I like the way you wear his sweaters and are nourished by his letters - drinking coffee from his mug. Very romantic in a sweet, homey kind of way. Telling him to come home safe. You are left wondering where he is. Regards Dorothy

This free verse poem flows with emotion that personifies the poem into the one loved and away. It is a tender tribute to the old adage, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder". Hope is a powerful thing! :0 GracieAnn
