My friend, I'm gonna call you Trecher ( with the R letter placing L Letter ), which means expensive and highly considerate. Your poems are so expensive and I like them all as you my dearest friend.

Good poem. Thank you for the history lesson - I love the Victorian Era which is in line with that period. It is amazing what a good soldier will do for fellow fighters and country.

When I saw the title of this poem, I immediately recognized the general you wrote about. I grew up in Virginia near an Army post named in honor of General George Pickett. The post is now the headquarters for the Virginia Army National Guard Great poem of homage to a grisly battle during the Civil War.
I pretty go on post each time I am back home since my niece has a day care center located on the post.

AWESOME! This story is one of heroism and bravery. Such stunning report of battles. A shocking and thrilling: "It came from hell." A living tribute to the brave soldiers who died fighting in wars.

Great use of the form. History of an entire battle in an octogram. And pickett's charge was such a pivotal moment. Like your use of rebel yell - both as somthing to be feared and something that was stilled.

Thank you Ravenblack. The battle was way more complex than I described. Just one of many pivotal moments. Just showing my pride in the Minnesota boys.

I have such admiration for a writer who can choose to be constrained by a particular form and still create a unique marvelous piece as this rousing slice of history is.

Nicely done.

Hi, Treischel,
Thank you for this epic rousing poem. I found my self yelling with rebels' yell and crying with Picket's failure and the bloodied 1st. For better or worse Picket's charge was indeed the turning point of the Civil War. I enjoyed this poem. It appears that the octogram was well suited for this poem.

Thanks Preston. Yes, I like that format of the Octogram because the 16 lines is enough to tell a story, and the short 4 count lines are great for emphasis. I also like having 3 each 8 count lines in a row.

A well-written historical poem, comprised of great audio images incorporated into the first stanza; the peaceful aftermath of the horror of war summarized in the second stanza as we remember the brave.
American history I find to be very interesting, thank you for sharing.
