This brought tears to my eyes, Sharyn. How wonderful to juxtapose the lively holiday we share with each other to the loss that those men and women suffered. That was so creative and an idea that captured just the right mood. It expresses so much emotion, especially about this day, without the maudlin emotional outpouring that so many use. Simple, straightforward, lovely. You've done your usual fantastic job. Thanks for this poem.

oh bless you vk!!! so glad you caught this one! I've got 2 more which I KNOW you'll like - and are both paying $$ - I'd love you to read them if you have the time. Have you posted anything new yet, or are still recovering???

oops - and of course, THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVELY SIX! I loathe maudlin poetry, so always try to find a different approach.

Hey there. You are so welcome for that well deserved six, Sharyn! I'm still recovering and trying to take it easier than usual. I'm hoping to make a June 1 deadline though, so stay tuned.
I will go through my email and search for your work. I'm doing a little at a time. I will get there. I'm always delighted to get a notice that you've posted something; you never, ever disappoint, my friend.
That different approach worked so well! Keep it up. Loved it.
Have a great night. I'm off to catch some zzzzz's. Sweet dreams.

I love how you bounce between the joy of the moment and the sobriety of what the holiday signifies.

These lines are alive with your hallmark energy and 'bounce'!

I admired your juxtaposing the carefree day with the reality of young soldiers never being able to bounce "Big Red Balls" again. I liked your use of alliteration as well. Best wishes in the contest- Joan

Hi Sharyn: Yup, that about says it, except you might want to add "and women" after "young men." I got up late today, but just put the flag out. It's a beautiful day here, so I'm giving serious considertion to working in the yard for a while.
I did fix the "miles" problem in the poem about my granddaughters, and thank you again for that suggestion. I've entered a bunch of poem contests, but I have the feeling that my old-fashioned style of rhymed verse isn't going to win many awards. That's ok, I'm just doing it for the fun of it.
Very nice Memorial Day poem. Dave

I know - someone else wanted women in there too, but it wouldn't scan rhythmically. Next time round dear ...

Sharyn, you have entered a very good contest entry. As said, there are far too many of our warriors who will never bounce a ball or see the sun again. I deplore the fact that our men and women have lost their lives because of these useless ego wars. Never should have been there in either place. We have gained nothing, but, many families with one less member,,,,,,,,Jim

Hello Visionary1234,
What a wonderful Tribute in equally beautiful floral words to young Martyrs!
The whole journey from "blue-sky barbecues/preferably at the beach..." to "the cemeteries../of/far/too many/young/men/who'll never bounce a ball/or see the sun/again." is really fabulous in simple and heightened form of language.
Excellent!

This is a beautifully expressed poem for the 'Memorial day Memory' writing prompt. You have such a flare with words. I think this could be a winner!
