Lol! This was so cute! And I liked how you drew us in to describe the elephant completely from the point of view of the hen. I especially liked "He vacuums his food up through his nose"! This is lots of fun for kids and adults alike.

Yay! I see you have achieved the ATB...and well deserved for this charmingly amusing children's poem. I have a neighbor that reminds me of Henrietta... She never heard a rumor she didn't want to share!

LOL I like to run my talent by this new bunch of writers so they will know I am a poet after all, no just a pretty face. LOL That's been long gone too. This is cute. I wonder what animals do think past eating and sleeping. Well done. Good poem for children. Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy. I can seem to get my act together to write something new so I'm just going for some all time best on the old one.

I was thinking about the monster in the cabbage patch. Lucy, called Doris on the phone and wanted to know what it was. She said the thing was pulled up all her cabbages and poking them up its rear end. I enjoyed you poem. Thanks Beth.

Aw, Beth!
Your poem is delightful, and I am positive that children of all ages will adore it!
Your imagery will make readers smile and who doesn't love "a nosy chick" and an elephant! You go, Henrietta!

Much enjoyed!
Thank you for sharing!

Thanks Tom. No, I didn't write it for my kids. It was a picture a writing club I was in came up with. I decided it deserved a kid poem. I could illustrate it. I hadn't thought aboug that but I have another on about a goat I hope to illustrate.

Those farm animals really do communicate! In Connecticut, we lived near a zoo. There was a "farmyard " section. The rooster crowed, and I did a rooster crow back. The next second, every single animal there started loudly scolding me! This was a very cute piece of writing and I could truly picture Henrietta gabbing away.

Thank you Jim. I'm glad you like my story about Henrietta and the elephant. There is a petting zoo beside the zoo we have. There baby goat and rabbits and such.

I miss the zoo animals now that I'm in Florida, but there is a large zoo my wife and i were planning to visit, so I hope soon to enjoy it with my daughter.

This is a very nicely composed children's poem.

Kids I think like the circus and you defined the elephant magnificently go them.

Good rhymes and cadence.

Hi Beth! I think that sums Henrietta up - 'nosy.' She looks every inch the busybody and I enjoyed the way your lovely, upbeat verse expanded on her character into this fun story. It may be aimed at children but, after reading some of the horror on this site, I think it's pretty essential reading for adults too:)) Take care Debbie
