I seldom review stories but this story kept my attention. The characters dialogue was real and I could hear them speaking clearly in my mind. They all came alive.
The lessons to be learnt and the joy of laughing together bring so much joy to the readers.
The friendship and the sharing of each other's company reminded us of how great friendship can be.
Excellent write and the characters' dialogue held my attention. Simply brilliant!
Cheerio, Ritchie.

This brought back some good memories for me. I used to fool some of my friends with the old taste the persimmon fruit. It was really funny and your description was to a t. I liked how Rabbit noticed the differences in Erin's appearence but at his in between age he is unsure how to react. This book remains one of my favorite on this site.

I'm glad that you're following. I really should have labelled as chapter 10, part 1. Erin is prominent in the next chapter. Just trying to earn a little FS funny money before posting. Bill

Good chapter. I like the nice easy pace with lots of character description. Found no errors. Like that one feels like they are there and able to visualize well. Keep up the good work.

Dear Bill, I am always happy to read about Rabbit and his family. It reminds me so much of my childhood. The tobacco juice and wasp stings for sure. Great job, Shirley

Just got back from a great time in Waco Tx. Gracie turned 1. :) It was so much fun. Grandbabies are so much fun. Take care, Shirley

Yes, it sure is much better to laugh with your friends than to be angry at them. So now Rabbit has a little sister and a pretty babysitter. This could get interesting. Lovely chapter that is well written.

Thanks for reading and your kind feedback. It really is part one of the chapter, so the pretty babysitter will be back. Just got to earn some FS funny money first. Regards, Bill

Makes me smile, imagining a charming boy, calling his pretty caretaker "Miss Erin." How charming is that?!

Ooh, I had shivers imagining the hornet stings. I've been stung before and I know how much it hurts!

Ah, the concluding lesson is so lovely. I think, between Virge and your family, they grew you into a fine, upstanding man. LOL! It comes through in your writing. It's a lovely story, Bill. Well done.

bhogg,

The chapter is delightful and skillfully told. The story is interesting and engaging, and the characters are convincing and realistic. Having been raised on a small farm, I can relate to many of the things Rabbit does and learns. It was always more fun to visit another relative's farm for a few days.

Country kids are able to find entertainment and thrills in things city kids would scoff at. I enjoyed the read and thank you for sharing.

Curtis

Curtis - how did we survive without video games, i-pods and computers? I recently tried to get one of my grandkids to go fishing and he wanted to take along his gameboy. Bill

    Bill,

We used our imaginations. I drove a Fitch hair oil bottle untold miles as a Chevrolet car. A 2X4 with a point sawed on the front and a block nailed on top was a yacht, I pulled many miles in the creek. I think many of us were as happy then as kids in the electronic era.

This story is a fine one and does stand alone very well.
Old Virge is quite a character and the three fit in quite nice. The green fruit had to be puckery because I remember some though ripe, had a bite.

My dad would find these fruit in the fall. We would split the seed open to find a fork or knife or spoon. See, you have brought up a memory. Thank you for sharing this tale.

The chapter may not have the components of being a complete story, but it can stand alone for a quick and simple reading that has a moral to the story.
I enjoy the charectors and the softness the story is narrated with.
Looking for the next chapter.. John
