Well done Aussie. I like your style in this beautifully written piece. I spent half of my life in the Pilbara and know the west coast wel. Cheers and Peace, Fez.

What a beautiful write. And knowing the history behind this tale made it all the more wonderful. Great rhyme and a smooth flow. Love the alliteration: "Silica sands-sapphire seas", "divers dread". This poem has vivid imagery, too. I really liked this one...Katz

excellent use of alternate-line rhyming
really good alliteration throughout
vivid detail with strong sensory appeal
You convey well the intense emotion of danger and anxiety among divers
I'm wincing at the thought of sliced air hoses
I just read your author's notes - that is a lot of lost lives!

Hello Grandma, Thanks so much for reading; had a hell of a time pulling it together (still not happy with it) I do like to write about our history for the benefit of my overseas friends. Reviews are coming in like you would'nt believe. Queen Victoria wore a black drop pearl around her chubby neck, bouncing on her ample bosom - Australia has the best pearls in the world. Love, K.

Kace, this is not only a lovely poem with beautiful photo art, but it's educational too. I never knew anything about old pearl divers. But come to think about it, I have seen those brass helmets in museums. Great poem and author notes. Carole

Wow, I always learn something new about where you live when I read your poetry. Interesting story how people risked their lives for a treasure. The way you present your poem creates suspense. Very good job with this. I can feel the weight in the boots and sense the loss of consciousness. Great appeal to the senses. :) ~Yona

So much imagery in this well written verse. You also give us a wonderful history lesson in this lovely poem. I can picture those divers of old, risking life and limb to collect these priceless gems.

Good rhyming scheme and alliteration.

Thanks for sharing

Isn't it amazing what people will do for the sake of money? or even the thoughts of it? Good poem, Kay. By the way, I've been going through my diaries, and my husband and I went through Mackay two different times, on our way from Melbourne to Cairns and back.

Hugs,
Lois

I've never really thought of it before, but I'm sure pearl diving in those days was really dangerous. I can only imagine that manual pump. Love the picture.
