Thank you for writing this excellent essay that is almost a plea for people to take action, saving our earth and the creatures who live here. I was lucky enough to be on a tourist boat that went out from Oahu. We saw mom and her calf in the water for a full half-hour. One of the best memories I have. Yep, we need to be stewards of this earth.

Bless you for your lovey six on this one angel! Yes, you don't get the impact until you really sit and 'commune' with these magnificent creatures, even for a short time. I love to take my son to the beach and watch him surfing ... with the spouts out just a few hundred yards from where he is. They're truly awesome beings. :)Sharyn

What a beautiful story. It's true which makes it all the more important to hear. Whales are the largest mammal on earth and if they are endangered we are in trouble. Thanks for such a great story girl. I loved it.

Sharyn, here you offer common knowledge about this animal ie facts about the calfs and the animals diet, descriptions of the strong connection when one meets its eye, and the endangerment of this species as their numbers have fell so critically. Nowadays there are more animal species that are on the endangered list than those that are not. Brilliant work, I SO enjoyed! And really does open us up to how many wonders there are out there which we need to keep hold of for as long as we can. Such a beautiful piece:-)

Bless you for your magic six on this one Shenel! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I LOVE going to the beach with my son, watching him surf, and seeing the whales spout a few hundred yards out from where he's on his board. These are truly majestic creatures!

I live in Mazatlan and we see the whales every year...it is awesome. I'm from Seattle and the Killer Whale is quite popular there.
