Wow! I had no idea how large these whales are or that they go to the Hawaii area to give birth. This was a very well written and informative article!

Excellent essay on the humbback whales. It makes me want to go to Hawaii immediately and book an excursion out to view them in the wild. I had know idea they were so huge!

This a beautiful written story, with great detail and such heartfelt words. I've been wanting to come back to Hawaii to see the humpbacks because I didn't get to the first time I went which was 15 years ago. Sorry I missed the voting on this but glad you were in the running. Someone just gave me a mug from Hawaii and then I saw this?! I'm taking it as a sign, it's time to go back..Namaste, Debbie

Then do come, Debbie! You're hearing the whispers, right? Bless you for reading and enjoying this piece - we measure our seasons by the whales ... so end of November ... they'll be here ... thank you also for your wonderful six on this one! (And it's a Committee vote, I believe, not a member vote - so you didn't miss voting).
    Blessings,

I really liked this. I don't know why I didn't see it before. Its great. It is well written all in all but also quite honestly, very educational. My favorite part was if someone were sticking their head in the water to hear them. I love the way you paint the picture. Makes me feel calm. Love it S.

oh I wrote this one ages ago Greg and totally forgot about it. I don't write much non-fiction - it's too straight-forward. Fiction's much more challenging. Thx for taking a peek!
(and reviewing for a measly two cents! ouch!

I adore them and have swam with them.
They touch my heart and delight me now and always.
This excellent work reminds me of that day when I didn't want to leave them( I was an adult already).
The kisses and play was a great joy.
This reminds me of that wonderful time.

Beautifully written and enlightening. I wish other countries would try to save the whales as we do. I love your description of their size. It definitely paints a picture of their enormous size. Thankks for sharing this gem~Debbie

You aren't allowed another 6 from me yet, this is such a wonderful story. Beautifully told. I should become law all over the world, and any country breaking that law, should face strong penalties. Goodness, they were here long before we were, it is more their planet than ours. I would love to be able to come to your country, Sharyn, but my bones won't let me. Thank you for writing this wonderful story of the Humpback Whales, it was such a real pleasure to read. xsx Sandra

A lively whale of a tale. Sparkles with your special brand of humor. Great touch using your son to describe the length and weight of the humpback. So a tourist boat can't approach them, but the it's okay for the whale to come to the boat. Interesting. An awesome ending. Good luck in the contest.

You are so right, Sharyn. Whales are magnificent animals and once you have looked them and dolphins in the eye you have a whole different perspective about their intelligence and just how much they should be protected. My "Portent of Doom" poem has the same message but for dolphins and fur seals also.

regards, Jen

Very informative and well written. Thank you for sharing. With a little editing this would be good for an article in a children's magazine or even a picture book.
