I loved that poem, and I loved the one you wrote about. Hiawatha was probably the poem that started me writing poetry. I learnt it at school when I was 9 or 10, and that was it, I was hooked on poetry. This is a well written poem and such a pleasure to read. xsx Sandra (I am behind with my reviewing, loads to get through, but I will!)

Thank you Sandra. I am happy you can connect. Longfellow's house is right there in the park by the falls. Also a part of his poem is etched in stone benches surrounding a lovely fountain there. I love going there.

Aloha Treischel,
This is such a touching poem of love, I didn't know they took that leap. How sad. Thank you for sharing and I like the perfect photo that you added.

I really like your mermaid poem, but I can't send you a review because my sweetheart ATK is on my network. If he sends you a review for some reason it shows up as a duplicate and they will not let me review it. boo hoo but still like the work you do...

Hiawatha standing there
With Minnehaha maiden fair,
Had a love that was forbidden.
Found they couldn't keep it hidden.
History simply now recalls,
Their lover's leap off the falls.

Nice Treischel and a very history oriented write. It was interesting to say the least and held me until the end.

Lovely story with an equally lovely picture. Enjoyable short verse that has a
steady and smooth flow. Much like the waters of Minnehaha Falls. or
"by the shores of Gitche Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea-Water,......."
I just love the names of the two lovers. A fun read. Robin :)

Thanks Robin. You must be familiar with Longfellow's, The Song of Hiawatha.

My mother recited poetry to me when I was little. That was one of her favorites.

I really like this beautiful poem, it tells the story of the legend beautifully. It is sad how many people only associate Hiawatha with that lame old Disney short.

Thanks Gypsy, Longfellow immortalized it in his poem.

Those are some very different names. Just pronouncing them made me laugh. I bet if they had kids that their great grands times five are all now named Jon and Suzy. Just joking around.

Nice photograph. Good author notes. Terrible story. I don't want to believe it. Love should never be so tragic. But yet, it is still so romantic. Great narrative. Short and to the point. Excellent work.

Thank you sunnilicious. There are several stories around about Native American couples jumping off cliffs and waterfalls. I guess Roneo and Juliet aren't so far fetched.
