Where do socks go to? I've got an ever growing pile of singles and I have absolutely no idea what happens to them. It's also a good personification of the growing number of singles on the planet who wonder where there well intentioned love has gone. Coffee has a lot to answer for it would seem in your mind, blame the coffee?!?! Very creative, well done, Garth

This is a fun, analogy of finding partners, be it socks or people. Very amusing and cleverly written. It is amazing what creativity sitting doing everyday things can bring.

This poem reads beautifully aloud! I absolutely love this creative free verse... I have a pile of mateless sock on my couch too! Your choice of art and layout compliment the poem perfectly... The photo looks like my feet since I forgot to do my sock laundry yesterday and am wearing socks from my mismatched pile today! Lol :)

This work has reached the exceptional level

Sounds like a holey socks allegory to me, one conceived in a surfeit of caffeine. What a delightful poem....I went back and read it out loud as you suggested, and smiled all the way through. (I have this place in a corner of my sock drawer for "the unmatched"). You are somethin' else!

Lovely, lovely, lovely and how it made me smile. this is the art of a true poet, making the reader see something very
"everyday" in a totally new light. Not only that but you also manage to get a story-line out of it,"ever-hopeful/of finding/the/ perfect/ mate."
Your "incidental" internal rhyme is as always very, very appealing, you must put these free-verse "whimsies" on a CD/U-Tube (I don't know, I'm not really technical) Everyone deserves to hear them because not everyone would read them aloud or even hear the voice in their head.
I love your work, I keep saying this but it is always so full of energy and life, has something to say and will often make me smile.

I'm so glad you found this one too ... I've been reading a lot of Billy Collins lately, and always love the "connections" he makes. :)S

Hahahahahaha! What a great yarn mate! Most of the time I live alone as Delia is contracted to the Philipines and I still find odd socks! How? there is only me there, bloody wildlife take them i think! Perhaps Percy the snake uses them as a sleeping bag, who knows. Cheers Fez.

thx Fez - only ONE person and STILL odd ones, hmm? think what would happen if we have a good glass of red! :)S Does Delia teach in the Philippines? what do you mean "contracted"???
reply by Walu Feral on 09-Mar-2013
She is a border control officer with the coast guard. She is a filipina (female Philipino)and she spends about 9 months here with her family and 3 months with me. I am here now for the first time, i only got my passport last month. I just missed her to much this time and my heart was starting to break. Normally I have our 5yo daughter (Charmaine) who I call Champaigne because she is so bubbly, with me but this time she came to see grandma and family, so i just got to lonely.

Okay, purple I like! Very much!
And this is clever, creative and because it's yours, it's wonderful. But I must confess - I have your eight lonely socks beat. Just this week, there were twelve in the bottom of my basket! An undeniable dozen! "KIDS!" I yell ... somehow a dozen unmatched socks is more than I can take.

Loved this.

This is everso funny Sharyn and oh boy can I relate. I have a whole drawer dedicated to this cunning and multiplying species. The Noah reference made me roar with laughter. Superb - you really know how to sock it to 'em!

Kindest of regards

Julie :-)

Hello, Poet

What a fun read this afternoon! I admire how
you wove in the morning ritual of hug and kiss and byes
vis a vis the morning java. YOu had me going there with
the overnight guests, and then I just smiled when I realized
just "who" the guests were. lol.

My fav lines are:

but here they sit
on my couch
lying quiet
trying
not to be noticed
sharing coffee

ever-hopeful
of finding

the
perfect
mate

Well done
Ray

Oh, me. Oh, my ... such a witty poem.

I loved each and every line.

Terrific ending:Noah would have had a nightmare ...
light, dark
no room on his ark

but here they sit
on my couch
lying quiet
trying
not to be noticed
sharing coffee

ever-hopeful
of finding

the
perfect
mate

There are days when I feel like a miss-matched sock. LOL

Fantastic fun.

Hugs, your fan, d
