Dogs are very special. We have a Golden Retriever who is pure joy treating all who comes into her vicinity with friendship especially is they have a dog with them to play. She pouts at 9:30 PM if we don't head to bed at the same time. She constantly brings us a toy to offer us as an enticement to play. She is a true love and we return it as we can. She does sleep and usually knows when we are busy. Her name is Maxim

Thank you Alan; sounds as if your beloved Maxim runs the household!
Toby is our little Maltese/schnauzer - he is so obedient and like your big dog - he rules the roost, never asks for anything except cuddles and I'm sure he carries a timepiece around: Where would we be without the love of a dog? Bless you, Kay.

love the pairing of photo and poem
love the alliteration in bedraggled behind bars and the visual of the beagle with ears standing out like flags in the wind :-)
I can just see Benny staring the narrator straight in the eye to win her over - a warm story in only 55 words :-) Brooke

Thank you Auntie O.S. This has been a mix and match - I did have a Benny beagle many moons ago - Houdini dog, escaped at every opportunity! Toby has big ears too, guess he gets it from his Schnauzer Dad. LOL K. - Not raining underwater today!

I love your story,I have a mini dachshund and adore dogs. This story is an excellent entry for the contest, who can resist a dog waiting to be adopted.

Hullo Aussie ...

I enjoyed this short presentation about a little Dog
and I am delighted to know that your special Dog has the name of Toby. When I was a teenager, my parents rescued and adoped a little stray mongrel Dog and called him Toby.
He was the most special little animal I have ever known and nothing could prevent him coming to daily Mass with me and my dear Mother. He lived for many years and was loved by all the family and the neighbours.
Thank you again for sharing this with us.
Love from .... Nanette Mary.

Hi K,

You have done a stellar job in writing this story in 55 words. That is so difficult to do and tell the whole story. I love my dog too so this delightful story appeals to me. Well done and good luck in the contest....blessings, chey

This is a great entry, Aussie. Dogs always have a great appeal and I can't resist a dog story. You make every word count in this. I was particularly taken with Benny, as we had a little black terrier named Benny when I was a kid. What a dog he was. Loved green beans. You remind us that there are a lot of worthy dogs out there waiting to be adopted. Best of luck in the contest! judiverse

How sweet and what a great idea! I love that you are advocating for this and other dogs. I am an animal lover too! Great job writing a clear and important message in such a short piece. Great job!

By the way, I just love that you are from Australia. I have always wanted to visit and I hope to someday.

Aussie,
This is a special story. First, I love dogs. Always had one (or three) and always will!
We had a Beagle, named Mindy for over 16 years. We had to put her down on December 12th. We were there with the dr. and I found it peaceful and humane. I still cried!
Great story, enjoyed each word. Can't wait to vote... John

Hello John! We did have a Benny beagle and he was a houdini - all you could see in the long grass, white tip on tail. My real dog now is Toby (see bio photo) he is a maltese cross. Thanks so much for your vote...blessings, Kay.
