Nicely written free verse poem about the ending of a poet's life and silencing of one's own muse. The reference of a lover being one's muse is stunning here and yet the silencing comes from within the frailty and mortality of a life shortened or slipping away. Very nicely done!

    Hello Laureen,
Thank you for embracing " when the end draws near".
Your favorite part re: a lover and a muse, is actually mine as well.
I am delighted that you enjoyed reading this poem nearly as much as I had writing it.
Thank you for such elegantly-penned, insightful and generous impressions of "when the end draws near.
It will be a joy getting to know you through your poems. Any favorite titles?

    until next time,
    Jill

This is a very compelling piece about someone
who's become ill and now you ask that he leave
and not look back when the end is near. Dreams
are sometimes more a nightmare, sometimes a
warning and then some leave feeling wonderful.
This is one that keeps seeping into you head.

    My friend mystery,
I am sure that you will understand that this poem's origins may have been in many nightmares, but it is a reality that I write about in " when the end draws near".
I can't tell you how very much I have enjoyed getting to know you through your poems. They never fail to touch my soul!
You are a marvelous writer and I am truly humbled that you have opted to become a fan!
The ending lines of this poem offer her lover an opportunity for a gallent departure. I do not yet know how and when this story will end. I promise to,keep you updated.

    Until next time,

For real, you repeatedly dream this.
There are people who interpret dreams.
Don't know if I would do that because
it might not be what I'd want it to be.
Maybe like you, just wait to see how
    it ends...Great stuff!

    My friend,
For real, I don't dream this. It's happening slowly. I am so blessed to be surrounded by people who love me and will speak of me with kindness when i will no longer be there to join in the conversation.
Keep reading my poems because I intend to keep writing.
    Until next time,
    Jill

Leave me when you can sit
no longer at my bedside
Look neither left nor right
only
straight ahead
walk in silent stocking feet
away from my room
Away....away....away
Don't look back

It is an omen I fear that you could better explain than we.
For it is your dream and would be difficult to explain away the horrible things that you see.

It is always a joy hear from you
I appreciate that you mentioned that the final stanza that is your favorite. It is my second favorite as well. It was the most difficult part in the creation of the poem.

Jill, This is both sad and real! Your poem made me think of the night that I sat at my mother's side as she passed from this earth. I sat in the nursing home for hours waiting for all the necessary things to be handled and I walked out of the room in my stocking feet. This is a very touching piece. Excellent work. Carole

    Hello my friend Carol,

Thank you for embracing "when the end draws near" and for sharing such soul-stirring memories.
I am very pleased that you were not deterred by the length of this piece.
I often craft much shorter pieces.

I hope that your memories of that night are peaceful and reading " when the end draws near" did not upset you.

I am honored that you called this poem " excellent and " touching". Those very kind words translate support, encouragement, and validation. That is a splendid feeling!!

    Until next time,
    Much thanks,

    Jill

This heart-wrenching poem grippingly describes how time and illness change people's bodies and minds and how they may grieve over the loss of physical beauty and other elements of youth and good health.

What an ominous occuring dream! Instant concern from
the very start readily evloved into daunting tremors
during enfolding of this eerie and heart sinking dream.
A loved one trying to prepare beloved lover for the
end as her physical ailments drain capacities so cruelly.
The reflection back to their love from more glourious
days, in such mexmerizing imagery is absolutely beautiful.
The latter declining stages, eeris and soul searing!
Yet the protectiveness within pleads for loved one
to be spared, by praying her senses become mute so
as not to see loves sorrow and parting...
Outstanding presentation. Hope this is not
the personal condition of the author, and this a
profound musing and contmeplation. Thanks for sharing.
Blesssings and best wishes...Ronni

"When the End Draws Near" is a poignant, sad and powerful writing full of images both erotic and painful. Your word choices move the reader to keep reading to the end. Very strong ending. Great work.

I hope this dream never materialize, because I see only sadness in this one, a misery no one should have to live through with a love one. It's very evocative and has excellent word choice.
