I'm still traveling to the reading spot, but thought I'd check this one too. Though most acrostics are boring, this one's certainly not. It gives us a good look (nice use of enjambment) at what the black soldier could, and did do long before the military was integrated. Kenny

Thanks for visiting this old post. The acrostic is one of my most favorite genre to write. I have visited the Buffalo Solder's
Museum at Ft Huachuca Army Base in Arizona where some of the Black regiments were based and are recognized with static dis-plays of service. Research made me even prouder that I too served
my country, but not with the horrifics they had to put up with from their white counterparts while fighting the same hostiles.
Sorry for the mini-soap-box spiel. Thanks again for your shared
sentiments, kind words and generous stars. teafor2

There was a movie not long ago about them--maybe a TV movie. I'm going to research some.

Yes, with Danny Glover (he's the only actor
in it who readily comes to mind). It's worth
the time...some extra dramatics added to sale
the flick. Guess who the bad guys are...

I'll look in to that.

Excellent acrostic for Black History month. Or for any month, for that matter.
It explains what they did and why they never got the recognition due.
Unless one counts the fact that Bob Marley wrote a song about these unsung heroes that informed the world about their exploits.
Like the phrase "hued fighter group".
I have to confess to feeling a slight disappointment that the touch of rhyme in the first stanza wasn't extended to the second.
Good work. There's passion in the write but it's kept under control which makes its impact both more subtle and more powerful.

I thought this was a great acrostic, not only does it read well it is a great tribute to the Buffalo Soldiers. I am into history and the Buffalo Soldiers were some of our finest. Nicely written and well done.

Thanks for your read, honest questions and curiosity. Buffalo
Soldiers were given their names by the Indians whom they fought
while escorting wagon trains of settlers through the West during
the 1800s. They never received recognition for their heroics:
protecting stagecoaches/mailriders/railroads workers/rooad builders etc.etc. You can read more for yourself by Googling
Buffalo Soldiers. I hope this helps. teafor2

wonder why they call them buffalo?

It is felt by some facions that because the hair of the Black Soldiers were curly like the Buffalo and yet, others say it was because the Black Soldiers were ferocious
fighters and their enemy (the Indians) gave
them the name. I hope this helps. teafor2

Thanks for your read, gracious comments, honest questions
and generous rating. It is calle Acrostic: simply each letter
down the page spells the words (usually the title) as you've seen while 'across' from the letter another word or word(s) on each line. This one wrote itself, all I did was plug in the story as I discerned it from my research. I hope this helps.
You can read much more and form your own opinion by going on the internet and search: Who were the Buffalo Soldiers? teafor2

It would be lovely to give us a little more background in your author notes, as you've made us all curious now - I've never heard of the "Buffalo Soldiers". What an unusual subject for an acrostic entry! Wow! well done! :)Sharyn

Thanks for your read, honest comments, curiosity and
generous rating. These are the Black Soldiers who were
given this name by the Indians whom they fought with
while escorting wagon trains of settlers out West in
the late 1800s. They never lost a wagon train, but was
never given credit/recognized for their contributions
for any of their heroics: Westward expansion; repelling
Indian attacks, etc.,etc. I Hope this helps. teafor2

We need more talented writers like you, who write like this, spelling out in poetry, a very important topic that was lost in the past & believe that this is an attractive way of doing it....So readers can learn ...History should be brought up so with heroes of the past...this being the Buffalo Soldiers, & others...So, we can, at least recognize them now & somehow try to resolve the emptiness of what was not covered when it really should of been...So eloquently written....& feel that you truly deserve 6 stars!

Thanks for your emphatic comments, shared sentiments, personal
observations and excellent rating. I have long used Acrostics
to relate and condense information for easier consumption:
please (when time permits) peruse my inactive works for simi-
liar "lessons." I am glad you enjoy this method of dispensing
knowledge. I am flattered. teafor2

Dear teafor2. Typed I did, requesting Fan Story to change my 5 star rating to a 6 for your poem...Have problems with my eyes, cornea dystrophy, it's called & sometimes it can seriously blur my vision to where it is hard to distinguish things correctly..They refused the change, as I just got a reply concerning, just this,,,So, just letting you know..I, guess they have to have their set rules to run this site efficiently...But, am disappointed that you didn't get what I intended to bestow upon your poem & deserve...Hopefully, soon, others will make up for this with , the 6 stars coming your way.

You are too kind, but your thinking six
is more than enough for me. You've just
caused an irritation to my old eyes...
Bless U! t...
