Sometimes They Come Back

The scars of childhood or later in life do come back to haunt if those memories were deeply entrenched in our minds. Abuse, torture and critical mental illness can gripped our lives and throw us mercilessly into the hellish place of self pity and some never came out of it. We can try to forget but it will not go away. And no matter how we tried, it will not go away. So let it stay. But do not let it bother you if you can. Ritchiesszzky.

Live and let live. Time is short in this world my friend. If those darn memories won't go away, no need to fear because there are people like us who understand exactly how it was like. Take heart that you are not alone in this trap. Be bold and start with forgiveness. Then all else will fall rightly into place for a better tomorrow. Cheers, Ritchie.

This is exceptional without doubt. The rhythm is excellent and the abundance of alliteration and assonance gives it a rare richness, albeit melancholic. Thanks for sharing such an emotionally moving piece.

This is a great write. Excellent. Very intelligent. Flowed very well with a wonderful rhyming pattern. Something I've read several times and will read again. Not only for enjoyment, but to learn. Great job.

Great photo to go with your poem. You have said a lot about the dreams one can have and would rather wake up sooner than later from. And as always, it's a fear of the unknown verses a fear of the known. I am not sure which is worse. Thanks for sharing this poem. Blessings, Keri

Your forgotten thoughts that "parade in gaudy colors crimson laced" is wonderfully descriptive of the poem's theme. Your use of internal verse line rhyme sequence scattered throughout adds a multi-layered poetic dimension to this work. A wonderful piece that is written well and a pleasure to read!

This is such a well-written/composed poem about deep pain, flashbacks and memories that haunt. The reader cannot help but want to reach out with love and protect the one whose memories cannot be erased. Though try as anyone may, erasing memories or undoing the damage done by their actual events is impossible. Best anyone can do is listen to the voice which can now be heard. The voice that was silenced through the abuse now has strength because of healing. The person afraid to go to sleep because of recurring nightmares might argue he doesn't feel strong, especially since the painful memories still have such power over him. Strength is evident in the voice heard through your writing and how you're open to sharing. You're helping others as you help yourself. God's healing is evident in your life.
Thank-you for sharing this powerful poem with me. Such sadness here... and such amazing poetry. (hugs xo)

You have employed so many poetic devices here to make this a memorable write. Wonderful imagery and interesting analogies to give your reader a close-up view of what the residue of trauma looks and feels like.

Absolutely beautiful, Curt! I love the whole poem but especially the second stanza, 4th and 5th line from the last.."they crash as seas of sorry flood the salty taste of pain...." very original. This is very well written...wouldn't change a thing and definitely would refer it others! Great job! I'd rate this a 6 stars!
