This is a thoroghly delightful personal essay, Marisa. I love your narrative voice and wry humor. I've made a change in my eating habits with the New Year. I think it's a matter of realizing, finally, that I can no longer indulge to the extent I have been. Also loved the closing poem. Well done! Bev

Thank you, Bev, for your comments. I too came to the conclusion quite a while back that my eating habits had to be modified to align with my waning metabolism. It is what it is, I guess.

I may just laminate this and hang it on my wall. I haven't made resolutions in years. I will give things up for lent but not for life. Yours was a very clever piece of writing and I just loved the fat mans' prayer. Now I'm hungry.

I hear you about not giving things up for life. Resolutions have never worked for me. I find the Nike slogan works best for me ... "Just Do It" ...I'm pleased that you found this piece entertaining. Thanks for your great review.

You don't have to starve yourself. I quit drinking pop started eating breakfast and quit eating after 11 pm. It helped alot. Your piece makes alot of sense and it has a certian dry funnyness to it. Like the line about Rocky balboa.
