Well, I must be learning because this is the first free verse free style poem that I have read to the end, understood, enjoyed, thought excellent and given a review - perhaps it is the age thing that I relate to!

thanks Philip - actually I always believe in writing free verse that makes sense! "free" shouldn't mean "obtuse" - so I try to make my thought patterns crystal clear and it sounds like that succeeded - great!

Not really new - I have a few poems and short stories - my latest poem seems to be attracting a lot of interest "Just a Joke" tells the story of a stroke I had as a young man.

I like your contemplation on life as you get older. One thing that we do is become self-absorbed (inward focus, not selfishness) and this leads to the state that you have penned so well in your poem--observations that pop up and strike home like your son that is 6"1 and your visage that looks like your mom.
All that is left is savouring each flavour before it is too late. And that can lead to over-eating.

You certainly do express some benefits of aging, Sharyn. Funny and true, though I'm very lucky in that I wear well for my age of 99. Ouch, me poor old back.

Yes, great compensations but 'man' prefered to eat his cake and still have it in his hand. Age is the only thing that goes up and never comes down but vector effect is lasting. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO MY TEACHER. Just resume here on the site today.

Like a fine wine, age brings out a wonderful flavor. Life goes so quickly and sometimes we have to just sit back and enjoy all the accomplishments and blessings we have enjoyed.
Funny how kids are the ones that reminds us how quickly time progresses. I liked how you mentioned about your son growing up so fast.
I liked the overall of message of being able to appreciate and savor the delights of life.

Great poem with a familiar message for me. : ( My mind tells me I am still young and then I look in the mirror and wonder how all those wrinkles appeared overnight. I have learned to look in the mirror at the front door. It is kinder to me because it is antique and slightly cloudy and I see only the crackle in the silver and not the crows feet. You are a beauty and a delightful author of witty as a bonus. Have a blessed 2013.
