Hi write hand blue,

Ceasar certainly didn't mess about, if you paid, fine, no further problem, if you tried a double-cross, well you decorated the landscape for a while ...

Good chapter, but I wasn't aware you could wade out to Jersey from the French coast, even at low water. My charts suggest a lot of very deep water and the tides there are ferocious.

Patrick

Thank you Patrick, for your kind review. You got it right about Caesar although he could be merciful if it suited him politically, but he usually took hostages. No where in his writings are there any mentions of what happened to them.

Jersey tradition states that passage between Jersey and the French mainland was possible in ancient times at low tide. I believe the last time was on horse back in the 1600s. It is possible that it was a lot easier in 50 - 60 BC. due to the seabed being higher. It also suited the story to have them walk across.

We get can get very high tides over here, when combined with a storm they are spectacular. There are areas of deep water but not between Jersey and France... Mel.

The towns gold was taken to be hidden from Cesar. The leader is captured and he is brutally tortured in chains by the Romans. Well written.

Men must have their bloody wars and battles, mustn't they? This was an interesting addition to your story. I'm anxious to see the conclusion.

Behind every man is a woman. The Celts breed a very fierce female who used to fight alongside the male in battle and otherwise (historical fact). You notice I use the present tense for breed. For their descendants exist in pure line still.(smile)

My interest is in history and I like to believe the best in people, but the fact is we are a type of hunting, carnivore by evolution. And even if we had evolved from rabbits or any harmless herbivore, competition and brain capacity would have brought on the same result, violence for whatever reason. Feeding our young or defending ourselves, from those who have nothing... "competition".

I don't mean to lecture (far from it) but to change ourselves for the future we have to recognise our violent past.

All this is meant to be taken lightly...LOL.

I'm Danish Viking by descent (genetic test) but so far in my life I have found no inclination towards Rapine and pillage...a popular pastime in Britain at one time I believe... double smile!

I actually abhor violence personally, but this hoard was not buried by some chap hiding a bit away from his wife. This is about funding something huge.

Thank you for reading so far, there are a total of five chapters
the last two will be next week... Kind regards Mel xx

This is a well done advancement of the story. A clear picture is presented with charaters motivate by their own interests. Casting the boats adrift and smashing the oars, sounds like just the sort of thing warrious would have done in that time..

Once again you seem to have captured the very atmosphere of the Roman camp. Your descriptions are vivid, and the plot you propose seems highly possible. If I'd had a six available, I would have assigned one to this outstanding chapter.

Wow! Fascinating story. Can't wait for the next parts. I usually don't read historical stuff, whether fiction or non, but this is really interesting.

It is only fair that when Caesar reaches Rome, he is betrayed by his friend, Brutas. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words.

I like the gruesome ending. Most importantk I can believe it takes place in ancient Anglia. Have you been to Jersey? The only islands I have visited in that part of the world are in Scotland. Cheers. Ray.

I am really enjoying this story and look forward to more. The distant past is very believably recaptured by your pen.

Found a typo:
I though(t) all you Celts were eloquent

Also, (I hope you don't mind) I feel (as in the previous chapter) that there is a decided lack of commas and some commas should be replaced by full stops (periods). perhaps, it's just me ....

Good luck with the rest of the book.

Thank you for your kind review. It is not you, punctuation is not my best attribute. But I try to try...LOL...Mel.
