Wendy, this is a real masterpiece and I just used up my last six... grrr...
These lines are sheer genius:
In tints and hues of unrefined
Non sequiturs that cast a thrall.
Gestalt achieved, the pieces bind.

Thank you Phyllis. I am writing in spits and spurts these days as I am in the midst of deep clean and repair mode in this my slow season. The local artist guild, about 150 brushes strong, is painting to my poems for their winter assignment with a showing in May sometime. That was the genesis for the thought about them painting my words and that perhaps that is what I was doing too. I appreciate the sixth-in-absentia and, since I respect your work greatly, am entirely too pleased at your response, green star or no.

I enjoyed reading your poem, although I have to admit I stumbled over some of the words. I do love the photo that you chose to use with your piece. I do think it's well written.

Good evening and thank you for taking the time to read my words. I would love to know if the stumble was caused because you were unfamiliar with them, or because the meter was out of sync. I hope to learn something from every review. I appreciate your words and, of course, the stars,--Wendy

The stumble was because I was not familiar with them, they were good words and worked well within the piece.

I loved this poem because you compared the imagery of Picasso with imagery created by poets. Picasso was a Cubist painter wasn't he? I ask because Cubists don't paint clear, defined figures correct? The Cubists mute the images. Like poetry, the reader can assign whatever meaning that is personal to them to the words. Great job!

Yes, Picasso is refereed to as the father of Cubism. It was a part of what I was referring to when I wrote of free, unrhymed verse in the first stanza. I actually was building it around the lack of strictures imposed on the writer as that style of poem is begun. What happens after is defined by the poet, not a specific form. In final form, the readers are left to define the poem for themselves. A good work, comes together in some form of basic understandable meaning with all the offshoots that the readers personal experience adds. Picasso's work was actually quite structured in its presentation, but began without any outside rules. The figures were clearly defined but not realistic. Whew, probably more information than you wanted or needed. I appreciate that you took the time to read and thoroughly review the piece and I am so glad you enjoyed it--Wendy

I really love it when I can read a poem like this and have it make sense. Too often they just string lines together and I can't make head or tails of it. This showed beautifully exactly what you were describing in the poem. Well done.

Thank you so much for the complimentary review. I got over my obscure, and overblown period long ago and I just can't figure out where I laid my stash of obtuse metaphors--so I just have to go without and hope it succeeds. So far, so good. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I appreciate the time you spent reading and assessing it.--Wendy

Hello Poet,
Not only does your poem entertain, it serves
as a wonderful didactic instrument for the
reader to ponder. Your well chosen words,
effective rhyme scheme and development of
the theme are most excellent.
Well done.

Well you've certainly painted with words within these lines, Rose. I don't need to detail the poetic devices you've included, because you've done that yourself, and referred, appropriately, in this well written poem, to the whole being 'other than its parts.' Peter

Thank you so much, Peter, for the thorough read and detailed review. I am again humbled by the sixth as I respect your work and your opinion.--Wendy
-
Wait till I criticise you, Rose! LOL
-
Oh you have and I was not upset at all. I understood clearly what your issues were and appreciated the time taken to review it. But of course, I have since learned everything I need to know, so there will not be anything to criticise--well, maybe an overinflated sense of self, creating insufferable hubris, and a bit of spag here and there. . . ;-)) Wendy
-
That just about sums it up, Rose. Only a psychologically sound person can take it like you.

Sorry, Wendy!

A skilled wordsmith can paint a literary masterpiece. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read.
