I love the picture. I love the poem. I love the author notes. We don't really appreciate happiness until we know despair. The right view can change our mood. Look at anything with a eye for the bad. You will find bad in everything. Look at anything with a eye for beauty and hope. You will find comfort. Great work.

This is a beautiful poem, and I can relate to it.for sure. Though my happiness at the bottom of my abyss has not been found on an ocean, but in the hearts of kind people in my community. My husband got.laid off from a fourteen year job because our son was sick so often with asthma complications. In and out of the hospital. We have six together and two step children that are his from a previous marriage. Things are expensive now and he only got a minimum wage job after so many years of us having it all and hitting rock bottom. But a sweet lady we don't really even know that well, handed my children a hundred dollar gift card. This gave me so much hope that I just know everything will be alright! Finally getting the strength to put up the tree! (: best wishes and Merry Christmas!!

Very true. The value of upliftment can be enjoyed after the depths of despair. The loneliness and pain in the starting few lines...gradually convert into so much positivity. Great contest entry.

It is a very uplifting poem throughout the use of contrast. My favorite lines are, "Strands of warm golds high skies and treasured birds of white grace."

Despare certainly at the beginning
of this exchange. Then the light
shines through the quagmire of the
real world and brings joy and hope.
A very readable poem which is easy
to understand. The picture suggests
the aftermath. Good work. Eric

I really like this 'but then I hear on ocean's frigid air
someone singing joy
high and pure enough
to crack the classic chandelier,
like a finger running round the rim
of sparkling crystal glass
in sunlight, and as those notes float
around me, I know
happiness'. you brought color and visual design to this work which enhanced the beauty. You actually created a visual chandelier with your design. Good work.

A lot of thought has been vested into this poem. i see riching in imagination and command of words and imagery. However i did really grasp the concept. it seemed buried under flowery language and imagery
