It is beautiful to have an overactive imagination. I enjoyed this so much, I read it twice and saved it. How many poems/stories have I heard of a fisherman catching a mermaid by her beautiful tail, unknowing. Only to return to work on Monday to brag, "She was this big," arms spread wide.

Haven't had the best week either mermaids and can indeed relate to your ink - sometimes I think it would be easier to just be a fisherman but I suppose even they have bad days - thanks for the notes and the read

A time to fish, a lovely mermaid, and a tasty sea bass! What more can a guy want other than an understanding wife to cook it up. Great fantasy-escape poem here!

A delightful poem of escape and fantasy. I especially
liked your author's notes. I'm also a nurse and my husband
is retired. He would have to cook "the fish", too.
Your poem was clear with a well thought out story plot.
I enjoyed the flow very much and the topic.
Thank you.

The lone fisherman and his line connecting his soul to the fish of the sea. It is a fertile ground for the poetic imagination and that's where the mermaid comes in with a siren's song to entice another soul into the fantasy world under the ocean waves. So many never see, smell or even breathe it. Yours is a rather sad poem. I mean the dogged fisherman never really makes contact with the mermaid. I mean a sea bass is all very well. I suppose all poets are inspired by the ocean, the world within and those living, scaly creatures doing their dance routine. I wrote a fisherman's song, a little different.
His sweating temples, always shone a white sheen,
Shot black and silver like threshing sardine,
"I can recall the curses pulling in the haul.
Wild youth's oaths drowned in the ocean squall.
And there was the odorous, oily planks; a tangy wake;
The old boat creaking, loaded with the morning take..."
It's not the same is it.I hope you got the one that got away

Several reviewers do not like that the mermaid and the fisherman do not make interact. One of my fans wants a sequel. Love your poem, is it in your portfolio?I would like to bookcase it. Thanks for a great review. Elaine

Wow! What an absolutely delicious and enchanting piece of poetry.
The bass will be nice for supper tonight. She can only let him capture her heart. Well done with great creative work here.

This is a lovely flight of fancy, and yet there must be many who in the real world, can only love and support from a distance, with no real hope of seeing that love consummated.
Very interesting, and lovely imagery.
