lol, this was a fun poem. I enjoyed the topic and it is so true of this site. Sorry I have not been around, I have been very busy, both jobs have been crazy, I am trying to read a little bit today and if the florist doesn't call me in I will maybe even post.

Thanks, Trish. I understand. In fact, I'm pleasantly surprised to see you back on FS.
Only a few more chapters to go. I've been so busy at work, but today is the day I'm trying to catch up. Thanks for reading.

Hi Nicole,
Many a true word is spoken in jest ... :)
A fun piece with dire directions for newbies on Fanstory.
A worthy win!

I love this piece. Every stanza explains the ups, downs and politics of Fan story. It's funny without being insulting. I agree with everything especially this stanza:
"If you think you're smart
The moment you start,
And you give a three -
You had better flee!"
No wonder this poem won. Congratulations.

I'm not surprised this won, Nicole. You have managed to highlight some of the reviewing problems on FS in an amusing way, whilst creating a beautifully rhymed and fun poem.
Congratulations, and thank you for reviving it!

This was a good poem to revive. It was clever and humorous and quite true. It should be required reading for all newbies. ;) I can say that since I'm fairly new here myself.

This is great! It should be posted somewhere where anyone can see it anytime. At college it would be on the bulletin board. You summed it up very nicely, but do you really believe EVERYthing you've read deserves a five? I do tend to shy away from some that seem too flawed but that isn't kind either.

Thanks for reading. To avoid 'Star Wars' I stay away from writing that riles me. On other occasions I come across people who have a desire to write, but have poor English skills; I usually give them 5 stars and offer some corrections. On rare occasions I might give 4 stars; once I gave 3. In most cases I go back and up the rating if corrections are made. The most annoying people are the ones who enter contests and dish out 4 stars to others in the contest. And watch out if you dare to give them a 4 star rating--they don't like their own medicine. Trouble ...

I read through this poem... oh man, I don't know what to say about poetry, but it reminds me of on I wrote a long time ago... very simple rhyming scheme, but appropriate for the light-seriousness of the topic.
Honestly could go on forever about what I think of how the stars sometimes get in the way of actual feedback, but people take them very seriously. A long time ago, there was an option to turn off the stars, which I tended to do because I wanted to encourage people to tell me their actual reactions without having to worry about ratings.
Fanstory deleted the option.... along with all my unrated reviews. : (
I was so very disappointed to have lost all those very helpful reviews.
Anyway, a funny poem sprinkled with a highlighting of how ratings and reviews spark so much controversy.

Yes, well, that pretty much sums it up! I can see why this took the blue ribbon. People do get hung up on those stars, for sure! Fun read.

Thanks for reading this old poem, Avril.
I saw on our TV news that Cumbria, UK is having floods. Are you anywhere near there? The news footage looks dreadful.

No. I'm from Cumbria, but now live in Canada. I've been in touch with family and friends. It's a total disaster there - devastting.

Yes, it looks horrific.
Canada is a safer place to be right now.

Hi Nicole, this is a lovely poem and well worth a revival. No wonder you won with this one. This should really be a guideline for all new comers. I have learnt a lot from sincere and heartfelt reviews that teach me rather than just put me down. All best. Ulla

Thank you, Ulla. I see no point in bashing people.
Given enough time, nearly all of us improve.
