How sad this poem is - true yes but sad none the less. I don't believe people should have to live like this but they do for whatever reason. I lived this image of "walking parellel lives" thank goodness i found You're never to old to fall in love again or even for the first time. Hallmark cards are overrated- i'm sure you've written beautiful hand written cards that say just the right thing. Nice but sad free verse thanks for telling the truth.

Lonely can be a state of mind, an old squeaking hinge that is crying out for a tiny drop of oil, a tender touch long forgotten, a whispered word the strokes and caresses. You have offered up a very sad and lonely reality, well done, and good luck :)

They have indeed, Janice ... and even writing a poem like this has made me appreciate my own husband much more. People go "unconscious" for years at a time, and that's when "dead" happens. Blessings for reading my piece my dear.

How sad that some people come to that state in their relationship. It was a very visual poem you wrote, right down to the Wal Mart card. Nice job on this. It was honest, and quite melancholy.

Great poem, you hit the point! Firstly I didn`t even want to read this with a fear of another poem talking about big life-lasting love, but this piece really took my breath away. It was written very well with a great style and seems to me that it shows more honest picture of a married life than any other "so in love" poem. Thanks for sharing! Tina

LOL This was excellent. The truth is that far too many of us don't bother tending to a marriage the way we all know we're supposed to tend to a garden. (And who's too old to tend to gardens, which seem like much more work?) The lines in your poem hold so true today. Do people stay together nowadays after so many years because of financial reasons even though they walk straight ahead with that dead look.
