Hi humpwhistle,

What a cute story. Very imaginative, well written and smooth flow. Good job and good luck in the contest.

Okay... Okay... Gosh durnit... I'm done (wait, I gotta wipe my eyes)... You are the UNDISPUTED CHAMP of story-telling! I would bow to you but I can't see your eyes and every kung fu movie ever made says watch your opponent's eyes when you bow!

You got my endorsement and... (goshdurnit, brain... let go!) my vote. The good thing for me is now I know who to steal (emulate) from!

First thing... absolute authentic down-home flavor... two... the funniest, most natural interaction between characters I've witnessed on this side of not-yet-famous... three... the most hilarious character mind-speak since Tom Sawyer... four... a story so compelling a politician couldn't ruin it...

I ain't had this much fun reading something since my paycheck had an extra fifty dollars in it...

Lee, you be numero uno!... goshdurnit!

And I ain't carin' who read it!

Thank you so much, greg. I love your comments, but I think you might have kissed the blarney stone a time or two. Frankly, I like that in a reviewer.
This means a lot, greg, because, as you know, I admire your storytelling/philosophizing. I can't come close to your Grit & Wit.

    Thank you again. Peace, Lee

So, I thought, how the heck did I miss this one? Then I saw the date. That was the week of my son's wedding, so I was kinda busy.

Still, caught it now. And loved it. You write with such charm, Lee. The dialogue in this is just amazing. The entire story is an absolute treasure. You write kids just as well as you do pensioners.

And the Sasquatch touch? Bloody brilliant, my friend.

Not surprised this was nominated.

Thank you, Av. I seem to have a penchant for writing either
kids or criminals. I'm sure something could be made of that.
Actually, this enite story began with the Sasquatch line. Odd.
    Thanks again, Av. Peace, Lee

Yes, it was that long, but that's OK in a good story...smart kid to best the old goat.

No spag, good form.

This month is one of the better I've seen...good luck in the contest. I liked that it set me right at the end of summer. :) Carrie

Thank you, Carrie. Sorry it was long, but we country folk tend to be longwinded. I appreciate the review. Peace, Lee

You're welcome. Did you see my chapter "Country humor in the city?" I've gotten reviews on in but no one said if the country tales were funny. If you're country folk, would you mind looking? If you don't have time, I totally get that. This is a long winded "you're welcome." :)

I love it. That was very funny and cute the way you told it. I can just see those boys squirming and looking at each other and wondering what the heck is going to happen next. Good read, good job and keep on writing.

This was an engaging and engrossing story. It was a hoot listening to the old man's interactions with the "know-it-all boys. I like the ongoing backdrop conversation going on, it added a bit of spice to the story - great job! You might consider making a correction to this sentence: "yice principal."

I am sorry for the late review. I teach first grade and it's the first few weeks of school and I am really behind, but as always, I enjoyed your writing.

Magnificent! Love the ups and downs and the Grandpa and kids see-saw their replies. Also your wonderful gift for images:
Our four fragile hearts hiccupped in harmony. (just to name one)
Good use of italics for inner thoughts.
Ray comes as off as the likeable nerd of the group.
LOL at the ending with the popular phrases of an era.
A fun read. And delightful joke.
