I continue to be impressed with your versatility, and with your pleasure of writing which shines through your work. This is a delightful tale of a not-very-serious war, and a couple of buddies who tinker with it. Nice job.

Thanks, Cornelius. You read this little perfectly. Soldiers who aren't fighting get mighty bored. I'm glad you enjoyed.

You know, Lee, I can't say I've ever heard of this "armed" conflict. Nor have I ever heard of Canadian Oxen. I suppose they must have used some sort of beast to haul logs back then - I would have thought horses, but what the hell do I know? I wasn't around then.

When you mentioned the men laying about with a bad case of the farts, I couldn't help but picture that very same scene from Blazing Saddles. Hahahaha!

Anyway, entertaining story, my man.

Have a good one,
Coop.

Hey, Coop, I'm not surprised you haven't heard of this bit of saber rattling. And oxen are the unsung heroes of the North American settlement, stronger than horses, and more docile.
Contrary to the myth, most wagon trains were pulled by oxen, not horses.
Yes, I thought of Blazing Saddles, too.
I'm glad you read and enjoyed, bro.

Ha ha ha, short and sweet and brilliant. Slight problem was, the number of "Boyos" changed the accent in my head to Welsh, Lol.

Thanks, emsey. My guess is that a lot dialects collided on the American frontier, and created whole new ones. Just a theory.
I'm glad you enjoyed. Peace, Lee

This was an absolutely charming story and perfectly written. I enjoyed the lilt of the dialect and even enjoyed my oxen stolen! (Cannuk, and proud of it! LOL) As if that wasn't enough, you've given me a history lesson! (I had no idea.) Wonderful!

Thanks, Dawn. I do love to write little stories against historical backgrounds. Did I spell Canuck incorrectly?
I'm glad you enjoyed. Peace, Lee

A spawn of your imagination indeed, Mr. humpwhistle sir! If your penchant for weaving historical and scientific knowledge with brilliant fiction knows any bounds, sir, then I have yet to come across it. The dialogue in this story alone is worthy of a seperate set of stars. Your humor is so dry as to be arid and unnoticable to the untrained eye, and that sir, in my opinion, is a sign of true talent. Your prose is damn near flawless, and your voice on the page is like a grandfather telling the most serious of leg-pulling fibs. I feel like a glutton for becomming your fan, sir, for now all I must do is sit here and wait for you to feed me with your wonderful, thorougly enjoyable literary concoctions. I hesitate to go so far as to say you have outdone yourself, but this giddy piece of fiction is worthy of every word I've written here. Applause, Mr. humpwhistle.

Thank you so much, Mike. High praise, indeed. I'll let you in on a secret. Sometimes I like to write small stories about small people caught in the shadow of a larger historical event.
If you're ever faced with writer's block, give this exercise try. It always works for me. Thank you again, Mike.

Oh this is the best. They needed some Beano!! :) What a scene. Lee, you have a movie here. Okay, I'll send it to Hollywood? May I? No, you have to. Lee, come on. This is brilliant. I'm not just saying that ... it's a perfect movie idea. OR a novella. I love it. My boots are pretty high, but I'd need waders to visit these guys. I know shite, and appreciate 'potato grubber', because I was mom's as a kid. I always had that job. :) Outstanding story my friend. And that real history is involved makes it all the better. Susan

Thank you, Suse. I'm always impressed at the way you are able to visualize my stories. I always see them as I write them, and it's a thrill to know that others can see them as they read. That's cool. So glad you enjoyed. Peace, Lee

What's amazing is that you get better with each post...and that's great ... but unbelievable, because each story seems like it can't be topped, but you do! :)) Wow. Still your 'biggest' fan. S.

Feed pork and beans down the throat. cram the other end with shot. When the pressure is right, look out! There she blows. This is very well wrytten.

Your historical perspectives is always fun and interesting to read, hw. Characters, dialogue, and humor make this all seem real as the dispute itself. I enjoyed your story a lot, Lee, and always wish for more of these.
Smiles,
Indy :>)

Thanks, kate. Not much of a war story, but then, it wasn't much of a war. I'm delighted you enjoyed. Peace, Lee
