This is amazing work and I love it. It's rhyme and rhythm is perfect and the
and the imagery is sharp and evocative. Your concepts are well worth contemplating. Nicely done.

Thank you for sharing this philosophical/theological reflection in this poem. I think it's clear from the Bible that the soul, the very essence of who we are, is immortal and we will rise beyond the grave.
I especially liked:
"'Soul' may to some mean melody
which rocks the inner being."

Thank you so much, Helen. I'm not sure it is clear. The Bible says the soul that sinnith will die, which means it isn't immortal. Immortality is a gift. Doesn't the Bible say that at the last trump man will put on immortality. The Bible also speaks of souls that dwell in the sea, and I don't think it means those in submarines. Sometimes soul seems to refer to living creatures. The Bible says God breathed into man the breath of life and man became a living soul, meaning a body plus breath is a soul. I don't think spirit and soul mean exactly the same thing I think when God's gives us the Holy Sprit, which will never die, it unites with our spirit and becomes one, which is what allows us to live in eternity, but these are just my thoughts that I get from what I read in the BIble. There are different thoughts others seem to get from reading.

You raised some good questions, Beth! I can't point to just one or two verses but I will have to write up some linguistic thoughts on soul and spirit someday.

It's always nice to start my day off with thoughts of salvation and the life in paradise after we've spent our time here on earth preparing and witnessing to others. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for reposting this, Beth. I'm impressed that you put all this into a rhyming poem. The definition of living past the grave works for m. I like the clever and humorous ending.

Thank you so much for reviewing and commenting on this older poem. It is certainly more reassuring to believe that as we get older that our death is only a new begiinning.

Brilliant blast from the past. Surprised you didn't get a prize for this intriguing and ingenious verse. Brilliant take on the dual conceptions of the soul, depending on one's religious persuasion or lack thereof. Sly concluding stanza is spot on!

You did well with this. I never knew you did poetry, but it is a good one. Makes sense to me. The old saying too each their own but Jesus said He that believes not is damned already.

Thank you for the review and comments. Some people believe the soula nd spirit are the same.thing. I think the spirit of the believer become one with the Holy spriit that God gives to believers and because God's spirit lives that person has eternal life. The Bible says the soul that sinnith shall die, so I think a soul and a spirit are not the same. What do you think? I think a soul refers tot a living being. I've never heard of soul.

Hi Beth, it is certainly an interesting question you are posing in this lovely poem. You have most probably received many differnt answers. I can only refer to several observations. I'm not religious at all, I actually don't believe in any religion. We are here and then we die, reverting into organic matter.
However, I have been in a room where somebody just died, and the strangest feeling came over me, as if another presence was there. Maybe it was only in my imagination. I worked as an auxillary nurse many years ago, so I was confronted with death quite a few times. The same feeling was always there. Strange. Maybe there is such thing as a soul. Who will ever know. Wow, you got me thinking. Didn't you? Ulla:)))

It is something to wonder about. Many people who claim they are not religious have experienced unexplained things that makes them wonder. There is so much we don't understand, and we are all scearhing for answers. I don't think it is wise to believe you have all the answers. I don't think anyone does, Some scientist think science can answer all question, but thing something new comes up and all their past facts they thought they understoog goes out the window.

I like the way you offered variations on the theme of a soul- including one from music. You gave us much food for thought - and spurred us on to do our own soul search!

I really like this poem that addresses the possibility of other points of view about what a soul is. The theme and the rhyming pattern is great. I guess it's way to late to wish you well in the contest. lol
