I enjoyed you touching and comforting piece about trying to sort through the questions. The style of asking questions and then following with your thoughts worked well to convey your confusion about the event. The ending shows a strong and peaceful faith that will endure.

Jan, I know exactly how you feel and where this poem comes from.

It is truly appalling and incomprehensible that something like this could happen. There seems to be no reason, regardless of how wild, for this man to do this except demon possession.

The kids at Columbine were bullied mercilessly and they were after certain kids at school for retribution. But this man? He couldn't have known who he'd kill in that situation.
Wholesale slaughter.

At this time, I am looking for my just God. Later I'll beg forgiveness from my merciful God, but right now, right at this minute in time....

Excellent job, m'dear.

Love,
Gayle

This poem titled "Psalm Regarding Tragedy" is an excellent tribute to the victims and en stunning prayer. It is also a very thought provoking poem and makes one ponder about the savage tragedy. Well done indeed.

A profound and poignant message. You have artfully crafted a reply to the madness that offers hope for healing instead of a platform for hate. Thank you for sharing this message with us.

I believe your spiritual appeal to God was heard as this writing in free verse is presented. I had one observation in that we do not rise to our knees but rather Pray from our knees your verse :I rise to my knees suggestion: I fall to my knees.

excellent consonance of hard C sounds in current scope
and of F sounds in lifelong effect
and of M sounds in my mind screaming
more excellent alliteration and consonance throughout
a most thoughtful look at the gift of free will and how bad choices that people make result in tragedies, but would we really prefer to be puppets? Brooke

This is just beautiful--powerfully worded, bittersweet, uplifting. It reminds me so much of some of the Psalms in which the speaker (usually David) bemoans tragedy and sorrow, asks the very-human question "Where are you, God," then rises up and praises God. Stanza 4 is especially effective.

A terrible tragedy happened in which people died and others were injured. It was the work of a man who lost his mind in a most unlikely place. There is no reason to blame God or question Him. He knows it all and someday we will know why things like this happen. All we can do is pray for the families involved .Well written psalm and heartfelt.

Very good prayer. One person caused so many families pain and loss. There are no words to express that will help the people involved. Going to the movies will never be fun again.

I have recently come to these same conclusions, we can't be mad at God for letting these bad things happen, because he gave us all free will. Some do bad things with their free will, and all God can do is be there to help the victims of the bad things cope...
