All free contests are organised by the Fanstory committee. You go to contests and resevrve your slot. Many of them have good long deadlines. When you post your work be sure to go to Contests Reserved. YOu promote as normal and your name will apprear. However those on site do not get to vote, only the committe can do this

This is a fantastic and strong piece of regret that the speaker didn't appreciate what he/she had.
That's how I interpret it, very sad and lonely.
A few fixes,
"He was with me, but I had nothing,
He went to Heaven, still I was left with nothing.
Now he means everything."
