Darla has a right to be upset. What is she knew Max was responsible for that accident? He left the family in a terrible position. Arranging a job for Darla is something he can do, but he'll still have that monkey on his back. Interesting that her late husband had let his insurance lapse, but that doesn't excuse Max, who left the scene. Max is getting in deeper and deeper. Great development. judi

Thanks, Judi. There's no doubt in Max's mind that he did a terrible thing. The course he's chosen will end up causing him more punishment, more suffering, that any prison sentence could. But after he works through it, he'll be a much better person for it. :)

You're very welcome. It seems that Max's efforts are leading to many untended consequences. judi

This book is really capturing my heart. What he is trying to do is heartwarming. Not many of us has hurt someone in a hit and run but his motives are admirable. However, I, I fear that coming clean with what he did will be the only way he can clear his conscience.

Thanks. What you said is very important to the story. Unless Max turns himself in for prison time, his conscience will never be clear, and he will never be able to shed the massive guilt that torments him. Remember that when we finally get to a special chapter near the end. :)

How fun it would be to have the money to do this sort of thing, not from guilt but general Christ inspired goodness. Think he might have had a better cover if he'd thought to get a used care and discount furniture...but with his background, that would not have occurred to him.

Thanks, Carolyn. You're right, and also right that it would never occur to him.

What Max is doing now seems to be putting things right much better than a prison term would. The new company won't just help the victims, but the whole town.

Thanks, Cindy. That's very true. Max will do a lot of good to help a lot of people, but will he be able to help himself get rid of the guilt he's forced to live with?

Seems Myra has her head screwed on... or has the gift! lol

Nice introduction to Darla and recapping the situation. Seems max is really going to have his work cut out. I wonder if he's up to it all.

After drinking half a can of putrid ferment at John's house, the last thing Max wanted was beer, so he filled the frosted glass with lemonade and sat down at the table."- delete the speech marks from the very end here.

Thanks. I removed it. Max is a hard worker. I suspect he's up to anything...except normal human emotions. But that's what the book is about. If he had no problem with it, there'd be no story. :)

The burden Max carries is very heavy .The guilt and the effort not to come out in the open or talk about it at all to any one is really too much.
His eagerness to employ Frank's widow might raise a few suspicions..

Thanks, Sanku. No one knows Max owns the new plant in town, so no one knows he got Darla the job. Myra and John think he only works for the new company, not that he owns it. He asked them not to tell anyone that he's connected in any way, and they won't because they believe God sent him to help the town.

Once I read the notes, the last few paragraphs of this engaging episode made a lot more sense. It is very engaging and I can't suggest any improvements.

You did a great job creating this Darla character with her very limited speech and generally disagreeable disposition. Hope all the kindness shown her would help her outlook on life and hope she never finds out who Max really is!

Thank you so much. Darla is disappointed and angry due to her lost opportunity, for which she blamed her husband, Frank.

That's going to go down well with her. How awful that she can't get the help she needs for her son. I suppose we have a lot to be grateful for here in the UK, he would get the lot on our National Health. We moan about it, but we wouldn't be without it. Now he has managed to sort her out a well-paid job with all benefits, let's hope he'll be able to help her in other ways. :)) Sandra xxx

Thanks, Sandra. Darla is angry and resentful, and she feels cheated in life. Can Max help with that? :)

Well, Darla is certainly a character, isn't she? She's definitely very raw and 'in your face' .. never have to worry about what's she's thinking! :) :) LOL! Might not be the best course of action Max is on here... ? :) :) Thanx for sharing! :) Yvette

Thank you so much, Yvette. Darla has good reason to be sour and diappointed with life. Can Max help her too?
