Wow, yes I am starting to relate to this...as I grow a little older each year I am now realising there is no turning the clock back and we quite simply need to enjoy and share that cup for every moment we are here. When you stop to think about the miracle of life itself and the fact we are all even here it gets a little scary and we shrink to insignificance in the grand scheme of things. I truly believe its about the mark you make while you are here and how you are remembered. We all have such a short time here and not enough people realise that. This poem elevates the fact its important to stop and look around and make sure you are living life to its capacity because before you know it, it could well be gone. As they say time and tide wait for NO man. Great poem...
Cheers Clo xoxo

Thank you so much Clo! I'm always delighted to hear from you, and doubly delighted if I write something you enjoy. Your poetry tells me you are a sensitive and highly intelligent young woman, so your opinion matters to me more than most. I liked your understanding analysis if this poem. Thank you for sharing it
with me. Hugs, MM

Oh how truthful the philosophical words of this sonnet on time.
Lovely phrase ""It's all you'll get, so spend it carefully," of course, I understand now; it took me years:)

Excellent meter and rhyme in this top sonnet, Adonna.
Your 'cup' metaphor works so well, and you use your poetic and expressive skill to create a poem with perfect word choices to make the reader think enough but still completely understand.
Great ending message of 'sharing' too.
Excellent!
Best wishes, Ray

Well, you certainly have written many hundreds of words(thousands?), and in the process, you touched many lives. Your philosophy, your gentle chiding, have made us better people, and if we paid attention, gave us a richer life, filled with the important things. No one can measure exactly what you did with your time, but I am sure, in the final reckoning you will be found to have spent wisely.
I know. I am one of your recipients.
Cheers, irish

'A Cup Of Time' is certainly a philosophical look at the gift of life presented in a lovely way. Everyone must surely wonder what impact one may have made on lives around us. My, my, you promt any reader to give that some thought in a very worthwhile way, MissM.

strong alternate-line rhyming in your quatrains and a solid closing couplet
as I always expect from you, a strong, steady cadence due to consistent iambic meter
good alliteration in drops and drank
wonderful imagery throughout
excellent turn in line 9 as the speaker gets older and sees the time filling that cup of life is running low
good alliteration in soul is spared
a lovely message in your closing couplet :-) Brooke

Thank you Brooke. As usual, your review is specific and greatly motivating. And, as usual, I appreciate your kind words very much. (Congratulations on the first place win for Story in a Poem contest. I remember I LOVED that poem of yours, so I couldn't be happier. I actually thought it was perfect.) Thanks for sending me your thoughts on A Cup of Time. :p MM

This is a very nice Sonnet. It is well thought out and the picture and presentation is really nice. Time becomes more precious as you begin to see the bottom of your cup. Well done and good luck in the contest. Honeycomb

Comment from Joan E.
I live my life preferring to see the cup as half full, rather than half empty; so, your poem is particularly resonant for me. I enjoyed your rhymed sonnet form and applaud your concluding couplet. Happy Fourth- Joan

Oooh Adonna, what a poignant poem this is. Your words surely speak to anyone over a certain age, and I can certainly see the bottom of my cup glinting through the last drops of liquid. It's a wonderful metaphor and you have used it strongly from start to finish.
A beautiful, thought provoking sonnet, with all the requirements of the form seamlessly woven through it.
A pleasure to read (as witness that I just read it aloud to my husband).
Best wishes
Sally
